Simple Pleasures #24

Are you living your core values?

Every once in a while I sit down and do a gut check to make sure that I am living mine.

Core values are the things that are important to us. They are the motivation for how we live our lives.

Although many core values are held by many people, they also vary among us.

When I am in alignment with my core values I feel a sense of calm.

There is a difference between the things you value and your core personal values.

The things you value, like getting the best grades in school, change over time, but your core values are always a part of you.

One of my core values is empathy. It is probably why I chose to become a counselor. It is also why I feel deeply about other people's feelings and the situations of their lives.

Have you thought about what your core values are?

This Week's Gluten-Free Recipe

I remember driving from Canada to North Carolina with my mom. It was just the two of us and she was taking me to my first year of boarding school.

I was pretty nervous about leaving home and needed some comfort food. Maybe my mom sensed that or maybe she just wanted some Pennsylvania Dutch cooking.

Whatever the reason, I had my first apple fritters and they were delicious.

I recently found this gluten-free version and can't wait to try it.

Actually, I am trying to figure out a way to con my granddaughter into baking them.

She is a great baker.

What I'm Watching

I have been watching some great new shows on Acorn TV

Under The Vines: Rebecca Gibney and and Charles Edwards star in this delightful dramedy about two city slickers who inherit a failing vineyard in New Zealand and try to make it a success.

The Larkins: This new-1950s set adaptation of the classic novel "The Darling Buds Of May" captures the warmth, optimism, and escapism of the Larkin family for a modern generation.

  3. I try to live my core values, and I try to instill that kind of living in my kids, too. I think it's the only way you can really live a contented life.

  4. I've always been true to my core values, except a couple of times when I was led astray! And I NEED to make those gluten free fritters! I haven't had an apple fritter for probably 20 years.. that was before I was very strict on my gluten free eating.. I would cheat now and then. I have never cheated once in at least the last 10 years.. and I miss apple friggers and cinnamon rolls so much! These sound quite drawn out, but I'm sure the results are well worth it! Marilyn

  5. I believe I'm living my core values, but you've hit on something very important, which is to actually name them. I don't know that I've done that, but I think it's an important self-growth exercise, so it's going on the top of my To-Do list. Thanks for this awareness, Laura!

  6. Such a beautiful reminder about living your core values! It's so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing or what the taste makers say is trending sometimes but there is nothing better than living an authentic life that makes you happy. Hope you have the best week, CoCo
