MY BEST SUMMER FINDS FROM AMAZON

Summer is here and I thought I would share some of my favorite summer Amazon finds.

I was seriously sick of losing my phone when I don't have pockets. I found this crossbody phone sleeve, which I use at home and on the go. (no more looking around the house for a lost phone)

This pretty floral pattern was perfect for me, but there are other patterns and solids to choose from.

Yes, I shared these "perfect for summer" slip-on sneakers once before, but I am loving them so much that I thought they were worth another share.

I am already picking out another color for fall.

I have been searching for a new tinted moisturizer forever but wasn't sure about matching my skintone.

Then I found this and it checks all of the boxes.

Formulated as an all-in-one sunscreen and foundation that provides sheer color coverage, minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and blends naturally to match every skin tone.

I could not be happier.

My sensitive skin loves everything by CeraVe and now I have found this sunscreen. Yay me and yay you.

Need a quick refresh of your hair when you don't have time for a regular shampoo?

I found the perfect solution.

Let's face it. We are all aging and our hair is aging right along with us.

It can also mean our hair may be thinning.

Not sure about you, but I never had a thick mane of hair to begin with.

So happy to find this line of anti-aging hair products.

Don't forget to stay hydrated. Not sure about where you are, but it is really hot in my neck of the woods.

I have been thinking about a new hobby and photography keeps jumping to the front of my mind.

Summer is a great time to get out and take photos.

I'm kind of tired of relying on my phone and would love to have a camera.

This popular camera has been added to my wish list.

Whew, all that shopping has worn me out.

Pull up a rocking chair on the front porch, pour yourself a glass of sweet tea, and settle in for a good read.

From the number-one bestselling author of The Nightingale and The Great Alone comes a powerful American epic about love and heroism and hope, set during the Great Depression, a time when the country was in crisis and at war with itself, when millions were out of work and even the land seemed to have turned against them.

NEW TEES AND SKIRT IN A BAG

I have been frantically searching for 3/4 sleeve tee shirts for over a month.

They seem to be quite hard to find and although I had found some, they were quickly sent back.

Too tight, too thin,.....Well, you get the picture.

I was getting frustrated and tired from the whole search.

Macy's has 3/4 sleeve tee shirts that I love, but they sold out earlier this spring and I missed out on them.

Just when I was ready to throw in the towel I decided to give Macy's another look and low and behold they had new 3/4 tees.

I purchased three colors black, white, and blue and when they arrived they were perfect.

Since I purchased mine they have added a purple color.

I love these tee shirts. They are 100% cotton, a perfect length, and hold up for a long time.

I noticed they also have some new patterned shirts in the same style.

They are all a great price.

In my pursuit of new summer clothes, I found a site called Natural Life.

Have you ever shopped there?

They have beautiful colorful clothes, accessories, home goods, and more.

I was intrigued by their skirt in a bag, and since I wanted to add boho maxi skirts to my wardrobe I ordered one.

The Skirt-In-A-Bag is the coolest concept! It features cotton that is not only super soft, but the skirt actually looks CUTER when it’s crinkly! The best kind of crinkle is when you twist it up and stick it in the cute printed bag that comes with it!

I think I am finished with filling out my summer wardrobe.

Now I think I have to focus on my huge car repair bill. UGH!!!

NEW BOOK AND NEW SHOES

Summer is an excellent time for reading.

Recently I shared some of the books I have been reading  in my comfy reading corner.

chair

Thanks to the over-the-arm organizer, a place to set my tea and good lighting, everything I need is right at hand.

I am currently reading The Whalebone Theatre, a novel by Joanna Quinn.

The whalebone theatre

I love finding new authors.

This wonderful book was recommended by a friend.

A transporting, irresistible debut novel that takes its heroine, Cristabel Seagrave, from a theatre made of whalebones to covert operations during World War II—a story of love, family, bravery, lost innocence, and self-transformation.

“Absolute aces...Quinn’s imagination and adventuresome spirit are a pleasure to behold.” —The New York Times

"One blustery night in 1928, a whale washes up on the shores of the English Channel. By law, it belongs to the King, but twelve-year-old orphan Cristabel Seagrave has other plans. She and the rest of the household—her sister, Flossie; her brother, Digby, long-awaited heir to Chilcombe manor; Maudie Kitcat, kitchen maid; Taras, visiting artist—build a theatre from the beast’s skeletal rib cage. Within the Whalebone Theatre, Cristabel can escape her feckless stepparents and brisk governesses, and her imagination comes to life.

As Cristabel grows into a headstrong young woman, World War II rears its head. She and Digby become British secret agents on separate missions in Nazi-occupied France—a more dangerous kind of playacting, it turns out, and one that threatens to tear the family apart."

I am about halfway through the book and so far I can say there has never been a dull moment.

Last week I shared some of the new clothes I have added to my wardrobe.

I mentioned that I had some shoes on order, but what was I thinking?

Of course, they didn't fit and immediately had to be sent back.

You may have missed shoe shopping with me, but you can catch up on it here.

I really wanted some white slip-on sneakers for summer, and believe it or not my brain cells finally kicked in.

What about those slip-on sneakers I have been wearing for the last seven years and throw in the washing machine every now and then.

They actually fit my feet.

Maybe they have some in white.

white Roxy slip on sneakers

As a matter of fact, they did so I promptly ordered a pair.

They arrived and fit perfectly.

Of course, the first day I wore them was when I went to hang out with Tessa while Cary had a medical procedure done.

As always, when I walked in the front door Louis, their 350-pound dog (okay a bit of an exaggeration) did his best to knock me down on the ground because he was so happy to see me.

Tessa somehow managed to hold him back, but he got his paw on my foot, in order to keep me from leaving, and said paw was not really clean.

No problem. Once I extricated myself and gave hugs all around I just washed off the shoe.

Stay tuned, I have ordered a few more things for my wardrobe and when they arrive I will share them with you.

Have a great day and I would love for you to check out my Etsy shop where I sell vintage and antique finds along with digital downloads of beautiful antique artwork.

OVER 50: NEW CLOTHES FOR SUMMER

I am not a big shopper but my seven-year-old, at least, tee shirts were really getting on my last nerve.

Seriously, there was a time in my younger life when I loved fashion, loved to shop, and even owned a clothing boutique.

Somehow life got in the way and fashion was relegated to a back seat.

Need new clothes, but where in the world would I start?

need new clothes

This month has been good for me on Etsy (thank you shoppers) so I had a bit of extra cash to spend.

I started by buying a couple of shirts and pants on a significantly discounted site called Temu.

In all honesty I was concerned about the quality, but they turned out great.

This cute plaid shirt is adding some color to my wardrobe.

This oversize blouse is so cute and comfortable.

Love these stylish pants.

Just a couple of notes about Temu. Be sure to look at their sizes. They tend to run small. Also, it takes a couple of weeks for them to arrive.

As I am a bit tired of nothing but capri pants I decided I wanted to find some dresses and skirts so I began to shop around.

After ordering and returning one dress because what was supposed to hit below the bust hit in the middle of the bust (not meant for large busted women) I decided to rethink my style.

I googled dresses and found some maxi shirt dresses.

They looked perfect for what I wanted because they can be worn as dusters, as simple dresses on their own, or layered over pants.

Looking on Amazon I found this dress in many colors. I purchased the khaki and on Mother's Day I paired it with the pants from Temu and some jewelry I took out and dusted off from my cache.
I have since also purchased it in white.

My teenage granddaughter told me I looked sophisticated. High praise indeed.

Why did I not know about Quince?

I love linen and Quince has beautiful linen clothes and sheets for less and the quality is amazing.

What did I buy?

Black European linen shirt dress that looks great with white pants.

I also bought a great pinstripe linen shirt that unfortunately is sold out.

Last week I went with Cary and the girls to shop for summer clothes for the girls.

Mall shopping is pretty exhausting, but it was fun to see what they chose.

Tessa, who is now ten was more interested in trying to convince her mom to buy her stuffies instead of clothes.

I currently have some other items, including shoes on order, and will share those with you later.

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

SMALL ADDITIONS TO MY LIVING ROOM CHAIR

On Tuesday I wrote about how I am working on my apartment to make it more comfy for me.

I started by arduously finding a new place for my record player.

There are a lot of other things I need to do, but I thought I would share some small things I am doing or have done.

chair

This is the chair where I spend a lot of my time.

I have had this chair and its ottoman for quite a while and I hope to replace it with a recliner. (That will be a large change)

There were definitely some changes that I needed to make for the chair to work better for me.

I know that the weather is warming up, but I get cold in the air conditioning so I like to have a nice throw.

The pillow is vintage needlepoint.

I found this pillow on Etsy and it is very similar to mine.

Does anyone else have a problem with wandering remote controls and cell phones?

I know that I live alone, but it feels like I waste a lot of time looking for them.

They slip down between the cushions and fall under the chair.

I decided I needed something to corral them and found this on Amazon.

armrest organizer

I can also use it for pens, an extra pair of reading glasses, and a notebook.

My pretty notebooks come from Amazon too. I use a lot of these notebooks.

Now that I am nice and comfy this will definitely be my reading corner and I will start sharing what I am reading with you.

RELOCATING THE RECORD PLAYER

I have decided that since I may live the rest of my life in this small apartment I want to make it as comfortable as I can.

Saturday I decided to get a start on that by finding a new place for my record player.

record player and records

I love listening to my old vinyl records and wrote about it here.

I actually have two record players, but the one I listen to the most is the one pictured above and it has been in a somewhat awkward corner of my dining area.

It was difficult to sort through the records to choose what I wanted to listen to.

Finding the right spot proved to be more difficult than I thought it would be and I actually lugged that heavy record player into four places before I found the perfect one.

record player

I had to move out all of the records and set the record player aside in order to move it.

The table itself is very light so that was the easiest part.

I also had to move things out of the places that I thought I might want the record player to be.

Once I set the record player on the table on the first three places I realized they wouldn't work.

Yikes, I can remember when I could move heavy furniture around.

record player in living room

Once I pushed the settee back about six inches I had the perfect place.

Now it is close to my chair and I can sit on the settee to sort through the records.

I am very happy with it.

Of course, moving the record player led to other things being relocated and I will share those later.

I think the problem with your comments not being sent to my email has been resolved and I can once again answer them.

FEATURED SPACES AND MORE 3/14/2023

How is the weather where you are?

After an unseasonably warm February here in Atlanta things have cooled off a bit.

However, as much as I hate having winter in March, the highs are still in the fifties and low sixties.

tulips

Last Thursday when I was driving across the city to spend the afternoon with Cary and my granddaughters I couldn't believe how beautiful everything was.

It was like a painting of purple wisteria, pink and white trees, colorful tulips, and green spring trees.

I would have loved to take some photos, but unfortunately, it was a rainy afternoon.

This week I decided to feature some spaces with spring flowers.

Even if it isn't quite spring where you are flowers indoors can certainly make it feel like spring has arrived.

Featured Spaces

Nothing says spring more than yellow daffodils.

Isabelle from merryfieldpottingshed has added a beautiful bouquet of daffodils to her victorian cottage in the English countryside.

What could be more wonderful in your spring home than a large basket of tulips and a pitcher of pink tree blossoms?

You may still need a warm fire for the chilly days where you are, but adding a bouquet of pink and white tulips as toni_marianna has makes for a lovely transition to spring.

Ania at mojeaniutkowo has added some pink flowers in a rustic pot to her spring bed for a simple spring look.

What I Am Up To

Since I let my medical appointments slide last year I have been catching up.

So far so good with the results although I am going to go for a little PT on my left knee as I have once again strained the tendon. At least the x-rays show that my ten-year-old knee replacements are holding strong.

It was interesting to find out that I have the hearing of a twenty-year-old. Tomorrow I go for my eye exam. Before the pandemic, I still had 20/20 vision. We will see how much that has changed.

Next month it is the skin cancer screening.

Aaah the life of getting older. So exciting.

I have been working on my needlepoint. I really had forgotten how much I enjoy it.

needlepoint project

Having the organizer for my embroidery floss has really been a time saver.

When I eventually get finished with this project I am going to drag out my sewing machine and turn this one and another one I completed a couple of years ago into pillows.

Finally finished the Paris puzzle. I really hated to take it down, but as I borrowed it from Cary I had to return it so she can work on it.

This is my next puzzle. Yes, I know it is a fall theme, but by the time I get finished, it might be fall. Ha!!
