SPRING IS IN THE AIR

Spring is definitely my favorite season.

Each year I patiently impatiently wait for the first signs that it is just around the corner.

Here in Atlanta spring arrives earlier than in other parts of the country where I have lived, but I didn't expect it to arrive quite as quickly as it has this year.

Monday was a family day.

In the morning I drove Katy to a couple of medical appointments and then I swung by Cary's to spend the afternoon with her and the grandchildren.

While driving down the road I noticed something unexpected.

It was large, it was a tree, and it was pink.

Needless to say, I was not expecting a full in bloom tree in January.

Driving home after playing with Tessa I spotted more blooms popping out.

I actually beat her in a game, which did not go over well with her.

She patted me on the arm and gently said, "It's okay, Nana, you can go home now."

That girl is such a hoot.

The daffodils outside my apartment are also in bloom. They usually bloom the first part of February but are also early.

I can officially say I am a happy camper because spring is definitely in the air.

When do you expect spring where you live?

HOW TO ORGANIZE A SMALL BEDROOM

Small bedrooms can be difficult to organize.

When looking to organize your small bedroom it's important to utilize all of your available spaces.

Under Bed Storage

Under a bed is valuable real estate in a small bedroom. It's a great place to store shoes, extra bedding, and off-season clothes.

This under-bed storage bag fits perfectly under your bed.

I use these under my bed. I like the fact that they are on wheels and are easy to pull in and out from under the bad.

I even have my Christmas tree stored in one.

Shoe Organizers

Shoes, shoes, everywhere shoes.

There is nothing worse than standing on your head trying to find shoes at the bottom of your closet.

One of the least expensive ways to corral some of those shoes is a clear over-the-door shoe hanger.

These also are great for organizing craft supplies.

If your small bedroom happens to have a walk-in closet you might want to use a hanging organizer for your shoes.

Closet Organizers

When I walked into my closet yesterday and things literally started to fall down on my head I knew that something had to give.

Sometimes I think there are gremlins that go into the closet at night while I am sleeping and make a big mess. (Okay that's my story and I am sticking to it.)

I have tried so many storage ideas and I still can't seem to get a handle on it. Being hit on the head set me off in search of some new ideas.

I currently have plastic storage bins, but it is getting hard for me to get those heavy containers up and down off the top of my closet so I found these.

This pack of six should be plenty for what I need.

I have some skirt hangers from my teenage years. I could sell them in my vintage shop, but I refuse to give them up.

If you aren't as ancient as me and want a similar skirt/pants hanger I found one on Amazon.

Other Ideas

I always say think vertical in small spaces and pegboard can be used in any space and painted any color and used for accessories.

Think outside the jewelry box for jewelry storage and display.

A rolling is a great idea for a small bedroom and this one is pretty in pink.

I don't know about you, but I definitely see some bedroom reorganization in my future.

SULTRY SOUTHERN DAYS

Once the 4th of July is over, and I never thought it would be over as the neighbors were shooting off loud fireworks until one in the morning, it seems the sultry days of a southern summer set in.

Yes, it has been very hot this week, but when I stepped outside this morning it felt like the humidity was off the charts.

I love summer and will take it over cold gloomy weather any day of the week, but when the humidity causes the heat index to be over 100 it becomes a tad uncomfortable to spend time outside.

"On humid days, when the air is already saturated with water, sweat evaporates more slowly.
This explains why it feels so much hotter in high humidity. When relative humidity reaches a high enough level, the body’s natural cooling system simply can’t work. Sweat evaporates very slowly, if at all, and the body heats up. In extreme cases, people begin to suffer from heat cramps or heat stroke, which is basically organ failure as the body begins to cook itself." (source)

Well, that explains why I feel like I am being roasted on days like today.
I have been trying to get over a summer virus for three weeks and finally had to go see a doctor on Monday to get an antibiotic for a sinus infection.

I was told to take it easy. Pffft!! Too much to do I thought, but when I hit the outside air today taking it easy seemed like a good plan.
It is supposed to cool down to a manageable temperature this weekend so I guess it won't hurt me to spend a day or two indoors.
I have more sorting and purging that I need to do and I can do a lot of it with my feet up.

I've been sorting through my vintage linens and have put a couple of pieces in the shop. You can see them here.
I took two pretty pieces to my booth earlier this week, but someone immediately shoplifted them. That certainly didn't help to keep me from overheating.
I have never been able to understand stealing.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

WHAT'S UP WITH KUDZU?

If you are not from the southeastern part of the US, you may not be familiar with kudzu.

Kudzu is an invasive plant that was originally introduced as ornamental ivy. However, kudzu now covers an estimated two million acres of forest in the southern US.

YIKES!!! it boggles the mind, but enough of that because the Kudzu I am talking about is an antique mall in Decatur Georgia.

The first time I went there it was love at first sight, second sight, third.....well you get the picture.

When I was in Atlanta last month my daughters asked if I would like to go to Kudzu.

Was that a rhetorical question, because I am pretty sure they both already knew the answer.

I went from pajamas to fully dressed with makeup in 30 seconds. (gross exaggeration), but still record time.

As you can see from the photos there is always so much to see.

I pretty much wander around in a daze while I am there.

You would think that there would become a point where I would become over saturated with vintage and antiques, but nope, doesn't happen.

I am absolutely fascinated with it all and I know that I couldn't possibly have taken it all in.

We only had a bit over an hour to wander through, because we had to go pick up Tessa, but it was a wonderful time.

If you are looking for me I'll be studying these pictures and dreaming of my next visit.
