SMALL ADDITIONS TO MY LIVING ROOM CHAIR

On Tuesday I wrote about how I am working on my apartment to make it more comfy for me.

I started by arduously finding a new place for my record player.

There are a lot of other things I need to do, but I thought I would share some small things I am doing or have done.

chair

This is the chair where I spend a lot of my time.

I have had this chair and its ottoman for quite a while and I hope to replace it with a recliner. (That will be a large change)

There were definitely some changes that I needed to make for the chair to work better for me.

I know that the weather is warming up, but I get cold in the air conditioning so I like to have a nice throw.

The pillow is vintage needlepoint.

I found this pillow on Etsy and it is very similar to mine.

Does anyone else have a problem with wandering remote controls and cell phones?

I know that I live alone, but it feels like I waste a lot of time looking for them.

They slip down between the cushions and fall under the chair.

I decided I needed something to corral them and found this on Amazon.

armrest organizer

I can also use it for pens, an extra pair of reading glasses, and a notebook.

My pretty notebooks come from Amazon too. I use a lot of these notebooks.

Now that I am nice and comfy this will definitely be my reading corner and I will start sharing what I am reading with you.

RELOCATING THE RECORD PLAYER

I have decided that since I may live the rest of my life in this small apartment I want to make it as comfortable as I can.

Saturday I decided to get a start on that by finding a new place for my record player.

record player and records

I love listening to my old vinyl records and wrote about it here.

I actually have two record players, but the one I listen to the most is the one pictured above and it has been in a somewhat awkward corner of my dining area.

It was difficult to sort through the records to choose what I wanted to listen to.

Finding the right spot proved to be more difficult than I thought it would be and I actually lugged that heavy record player into four places before I found the perfect one.

record player

I had to move out all of the records and set the record player aside in order to move it.

The table itself is very light so that was the easiest part.

I also had to move things out of the places that I thought I might want the record player to be.

Once I set the record player on the table on the first three places I realized they wouldn't work.

Yikes, I can remember when I could move heavy furniture around.

record player in living room

Once I pushed the settee back about six inches I had the perfect place.

Now it is close to my chair and I can sit on the settee to sort through the records.

I am very happy with it.

Of course, moving the record player led to other things being relocated and I will share those later.

I think the problem with your comments not being sent to my email has been resolved and I can once again answer them.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

The spring flowers and blossoms have well and truly passed in my neck of the woods, but as a big lover of spring I am enjoying looking at all of the spring photos of those of you who are just now welcoming it in.

spring flowers

I know this has been a hard winter for many of you, so I feel sure you are happy to see spring waking up.

Spring on Instagram

Many of you are bringing spring into your homes with fresh cut daffodils and tulips.

Hellebores and daffodils make a simple but beautiful display when grouped together in white pottery pieces by francespalmer pottery.

What could be more beautiful than a massive bouquet of springtime multi-colored tulips by tinathelen.

My favorite spring flower is the tulip. Of course ours appeared in late January, so they are a late winter flower for us.

I do love that they signify a fresh beginning.

Jonathangargiulo has created a beautiful centerpiece with the daffodils from his farm.

While you enjoy bringing spring inside you home don't forget that it is popping out all over.

My Life These Days

Yesterday when I returned home from spending Easter with my family I noticed all of the clover in the yard and it reminded me of making clover chains when I was a child.

Did you do that?

field of clover

When I was at my daughter's my grandchildren's ten year old cousin on their dad's side of the family looked down and plucked out a four leaf clover.

Apparently, like my older sister he has a knack for finding them.

It used to drive me crazy when my sister did that.

I think the last time I found a four leaf clover was when I was ten.

I left my phone in my pocket yesterday. It was my first Easter without Katy and like all of the other firsts in the last five months it was difficult.

I have become more disciplined about working out on the stationary bike this last week and I am trying to do two miles a day.

Listening to some of my favorite music makes the time go by more quickly.

Now, if I can just kick my chocolate addiction.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend and that your spring is in the air.

THE JOYS OF SPRING AND FEATURED SPACES

Spring is such a wonderful time of the year.

Everything feels so fresh and new.

I wonder if we somehow forget the joys of each new awakening from year to year.

basket of lilacs

Our weather here in Georgia has been pretty amazing this past week.

Temperatures in the 70s and 80s have sent me outside as much as possible.

This past Thursday I spent the afternoon at Cary's. I helped her plant some lettuce and then forced Tessa to sit out on the porch with me.

Not sure what happened to that girl who used to love the outdoors so much, but she has gone the way of so many kids and has her nose buried in her computer.

Featured Spaces

I thought I would do something a little different this week and feature some outdoor spaces.

I remember when I was growing up my father, who hated purple, used to quote this ditty to me.

I've never seen a purple cow
I never hope to see one,
but I can tell you anyhow
I'd rather see than be one.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a purple door, but this one is pretty fabulous.

This one is from phillydoorways.

Keeping with the purple theme, Dana from thisoldcapehouse shows how beautiful it is in the garden.

The roads and fields may be muddy, but a single flowering tree lets us know that spring is here.

Kristina from kristina-ieva loves capturing the beauty of nature.

Can you ever have too many potted daffodils in the spring?

I would say that roman_and_ivy have just the right amount.

Old French buildings and spring gardens make an ideal combination and thanks to charleygreyantiques we can imagine ourselves there.

What I'm Up To

I wish that I could tell you that I am traveling to France or walking down country roads to enjoy the spring gardens, but I do enjoy browsing the beautiful photos on Instagram.

It is a welcome treat between things like fighting with my car insurance company because they suddenly doubled my premium for no reason, writing my will (please don't die intestate. It's a nightmare for those you leave behind.), and trying to figure out probate for my sweet Katy.

I do realize that no life is perfect no matter how it may look on social media.

I have added a new book to my to-be-read book queue. It is the latest book by Jacqueline Winspear.

The White Lady by Jacqueline Winspear

The White Lady introduces yet another extraordinary heroine from Jacqueline Winspear, creator of the best-selling Maisie Dobbs series.

FEATURED SMALL SPACE LIVING AND MORE 3/21/2023

Living in a small space, I always look for creative decor and organizational ideas.

I love decorating and have a lot in my apartment as a maximalist.

Today I went searching for some fresh ideas.

Featured Small Living Spaces

One of my biggest challenges is my small kitchen so I love seeing what other people do with their small kitchens.

Like my kitchen, there is no built-in microwave I found @myhouseinsprn. Wish I had open shelves, which always make a kitchen look larger.

Spring is here and what I wouldn't give for a small outdoor space of my own.

It's amazing what you can do with even a small deck or patio.

@cozyhommes found this wonderful deck. I could sit there for hours with my needlepoint or book.

Love this small but pretty bathroom from the home of  Hannah @thistleharvest

It is so wonderfully light-filled.

If you are a gardener how could you not love this small colorful gardening space from Sue @talesfromwisteriacottage

Although this bed appears to take up most of this small bedroom marzena.marideko has created a cozy spot.

I don't know about you, but I have gotten some great new decor ideas.

What I'm Up To

I think Mother Nature looked at Georgia and said, "wait a minute I think I forgot to give you any winter" and threw some cold weather our way.

Fortunately, it is short-lived and will be back up into the 70s by Wednesday.

Thursday it is supposed to be 80 so I have plans to spend the afternoon at Cary's doing some porch sitting.

In the meantime, PBS has new episodes of Call The Midwife and Sanditon so I will be watching those. So sad this is the last season of Sanditon.

I have also ordered Debra Crombie's new book from the library, but of course, there is a waiting list. (I ordered it before, but somehow missed the notification and missed out on my turn.)

If you can't wait to read it you can purchase it from Amazon.

Have a great day and I would love for you to check out my Etsy shop where I sell vintage and antique finds along with digital downloads of beautiful antique artwork.

MAKING MY COTTAGE BED

Every morning one of the first things I do is make my bed.

I love smoothing out my pretty sheets in preparation for the night ahead.

I use two sets of these sheets almost exclusively because they remind me of my younger years.

They have such a wonderful vintage cottage look.

floral bed sheets.

I purchased my first set from Amazon several years ago and love them so much that I bought a second set.

I think they have held up better than any sheets I have ever had.

You might have noticed my antique iron bed frame.

About nine years ago I went to an auction and there it was. I held my breath when it went up for auction and then while no one bid on it.

The auctioneer refused to take less than $50.

The next week I offered him $25 and he accepted. I quickly hauled that heavy bed out of there and loaded it into my van.

Over the years I have added pretty pieces to my bed.

A white 18" ruffled bed skirt covers the area under the bed that I use for extra storage.

There is a white matelasse coverlet. I couldn't find the exact one I have, but this one from Amazon is very similar.

The throw pillow came from the thrift store at a hefty price of $3.

I believe I got the duvet at Ikea. I'm looking for a new duvet cover for it and the body pillow, which came from Amazon stays at the bottom of the bed during the day.

Now for the finishing touches.

I just have to add this wonderful antique quilt I got from Katy

and this amazing bed cover that my great aunt Rose crocheted.

FEATURED SPACES AND MORE 3/14/2023

How is the weather where you are?

After an unseasonably warm February here in Atlanta things have cooled off a bit.

However, as much as I hate having winter in March, the highs are still in the fifties and low sixties.

tulips

Last Thursday when I was driving across the city to spend the afternoon with Cary and my granddaughters I couldn't believe how beautiful everything was.

It was like a painting of purple wisteria, pink and white trees, colorful tulips, and green spring trees.

I would have loved to take some photos, but unfortunately, it was a rainy afternoon.

This week I decided to feature some spaces with spring flowers.

Even if it isn't quite spring where you are flowers indoors can certainly make it feel like spring has arrived.

Featured Spaces

Nothing says spring more than yellow daffodils.

Isabelle from merryfieldpottingshed has added a beautiful bouquet of daffodils to her victorian cottage in the English countryside.

What could be more wonderful in your spring home than a large basket of tulips and a pitcher of pink tree blossoms?

Margyl has this gorgeous room and more spring ideas at theoldhouseonmain

You may still need a warm fire for the chilly days where you are, but adding a bouquet of pink and white tulips as toni_marianna has makes for a lovely transition to spring.

Ania at mojeaniutkowo has added some pink flowers in a rustic pot to her spring bed for a simple spring look.

What I Am Up To

Since I let my medical appointments slide last year I have been catching up.

So far so good with the results although I am going to go for a little PT on my left knee as I have once again strained the tendon. At least the x-rays show that my ten-year-old knee replacements are holding strong.

It was interesting to find out that I have the hearing of a twenty-year-old. Tomorrow I go for my eye exam. Before the pandemic, I still had 20/20 vision. We will see how much that has changed.

Next month it is the skin cancer screening.

Aaah the life of getting older. So exciting.

I have been working on my needlepoint. I really had forgotten how much I enjoy it.

needlepoint project

Having the organizer for my embroidery floss has really been a time saver.

When I eventually get finished with this project I am going to drag out my sewing machine and turn this one and another one I completed a couple of years ago into pillows.

Finally finished the Paris puzzle. I really hated to take it down, but as I borrowed it from Cary I had to return it so she can work on it.

paris puzzle

This is my next puzzle. Yes, I know it is a fall theme, but by the time I get finished, it might be fall. Ha!!
