Last night as I snuggled down in my bed there was a loud rumbling and a crash overhead.
It was a summer thunderstorm and it reminded me of all of the sounds I associate with summer.
I have always loved thunderstorms and summer rains because they clean the air and leave the world feeling fresh and new.
There are so many other sounds that I associate with summer;
The sound of ocean waves breaking on the beach brings back memories of fun summer vacations.
Bees buzzing in a summer flower garden remind me of days spent on a blanket with my sister playing with our paper dolls.
The Saturday morning hum of a lawnmower evokes the smell of freshly cut grass.
Here in the south, the shrill sound of the cicadas means summer is here.
There was nothing better than listening to the Beach Boys in the summer as a young girl.
There are so many sounds of summer. What are your favorites?

Patti I love the sound of a good thunderstorm too. The best thing about summer is the smell of fresh cut grass. Love that smell. I actually found a candle one time with that scent. ReplyDeleteOh I love all the sounds of summer that you mentioned! From childhood, I mostly remember the sounds of the crickets in the distance, and the smell of the dairy farm up the road from us! I love the smells of fresh mown hay, freshly cut grass and the sound of the lawnmower on Saturday morning! I grew up going to the Oregon coast with my family, so to this day, the sounds of the waves hitting the sand bring the nostalgia back to me... those sounds mean SUMMER! I loved the books you listed and have saved them to my list for my next library order! All we're hearing here today are the sounds of rain! Marilyn
ReplyDeleteSummer thunderstorms are the best! I love that noise when I'm snuggled in at home. I also love all the other sounds you mentioned...although I could do without the bees! Haha! I also associate smells with summer. I love the smell of the salt air when I walk outside on a hot day or the flowers in my garden and bbq!! Today it's pouring outside, no thunder yet, but maybe we'll get a rumble later!
