Simple Pleasures #41

Whether you call them lightning bugs or fireflies their appearance each year marks the true beginning of summer for me.

When I was a little girl my daddy would find us glass jars and punch holes in the tops so we could catch lightning bugs.

My sister and I would run around the yard chasing the flashing lights and when we caught one would add it to our jars.

After capturing a few and marveling at how they lit up the night we would release them before going to bed.

Last night when I closed my blinds for the night I saw my first lightning bugs of the year.

In recent years I have noticed how the number of fireflies has diminished since I was a child.

Signs point to human development, light pollution
and toxic chemicals as likely culprits behind the dwindling of firefly
populations.

If you would like to help save our lightning bugs for future generations of children, you can find more information here.

Over the last couple of years, most of us have spent more time in our homes than we have in the past.

This has led to a lot of discontent and a desire to move.

Gluten-Free Cooking

Summer means being on the go a lot and protein bars are a great way to carry along an easy healthy snack.

I have found that most recipes for homemade protein bars are pretty complicated.

These homemade no bake bars are tasty and simple to make.
