TRIXIE THE LONELY CHICKEN UPDATE

Friday, April 17, 2020

I thought I would give you an update on Trixie, the lonely chicken. If you missed that post you can read it here.

If you did read it I am sure you didn't miss my fantastic sorely lacking piece of artwork. Somehow the artist gene skipped over me, although not quite as badly as it passed over my mom, who couldn't understand why we didn't recognize her chicken drawing during a game of Pictionary even though it had four legs.

Moving right along I thought you would like to know that Trixie, who considers herself a dog, decided that she wanted to be a mom. She was sitting in her box in the hen house as if she was sitting on a nest of eggs.

After Easter my daughter put the Easter eggs in there and Trixie was happily trying to hatch them.

Fortunately a friend of their's had some fertilized eggs to share with them. WHEW!! thank goodness I would hate to see the trauma caused by Trixie trying to hatch Easter eggs.

So far so good. Trixie is apparently thrilled with her new job of being a broody hen. She is settled down on the new nest of eggs in eager anticipation of having a new family. Thanks to my daughter Cary for sending me this photo.

Now, the maternity waiting begins. It might be a long 21 days, but at least Tessa can roam around the backyard without getting her toes pecked.

Good luck Trixie.

  3. This is one of the sweetest posts I have ever read. Our friends run a Rent A Chicken business, supplying fertilized eggs and a warmer to schools to document the process of hatching eggs. All are intrigued, but Trixie's method is best.
