CHANGING OF THE SEASONS

Monday, September 28, 2015

The seasons are changing. Summer has gone and fall is here. As hard as we may try to hold onto summer, we know that we have to let it go and embrace the new season.

The seasons of our lives change too, and although we often try to hang onto the past, in order to thrive we have to move into the new season.

This is a time of year where I always begin to feel nostalgia for things from my past. I always loved fall. Apple picking. The smell of baked goods. The leaves crunching under foot. A cozy fire on a cool night. The beauty of the changing leaves. Sitting around the dinner table with my family.

These are wonderful memories that I will hold close to my heart, but I know that I am in a new season, and although I may experience many of these things again I know that I will experience them differently.

Life is meant to be lived in the moment. So for me, I will miss summer as I miss past memories, but I will enjoy the fall and not worry about the cold winter coming.

As the sign says. It's fall y'all.

Have a great Monday.

  4. Life is full of changes and seasons in our life! I am in a season of being a caretaker to my Mom and helping my daughter with her children. I love it all, but often I put myself way down on the list. I need to remember to take care of me or I can't take care of others.

    1. You must absolutely take care of yourself first, Linda. That is not selfish, it is self love.

  5. Lovely post Laura. I'm not a fall and winter person at all but do enjoy special moments in both seasons. Spring and summer are my best and when I feel the best as well. Good thing I can still have my memories of this past spring and summer and the beauty of it. Have a great week.

    1. Winter is definitely difficult for me too, Pamela. The lack of light is a problem. When I start to feel down I close my eyes and imagine the warm sun on my face. It really does help.

    1. We're human, Linda so it is hard not to miss wonderful moments from the past. However, I know we will all have wonderful moments to come.

  7. Yes, I know what you mean. As I've had one child leave the nest this past summer and am now left with just one. I'm dealing with a changing season at my own house too. I try not to dwell on the memories so I won't get too sad and think how fast time as gone. I guess I have to learn to embrace change since that is inevitable.

    1. I remember how devastated I felt when each of my two daughters left home. Our children will always be a part of our bodies. I still miss the companionship of my girls, but I know that they are living the lives that I raised them to live, as will your children. I hope that you are able to embrace the changes with love for yourself, Kelly.

  8. I can so relate to your post today. I am going through some new changes in my own life and I am hoping as Fall enters and the season changes I will find those changes in my personal life too. I love fall and all the wonderful smells, colors, changes that happen too.

  9. Because of school starting in the fall, FALL has always felt more like NEW YEAR to me than the January date ever did :)

  11. I tried hanging on to summer as long as I could this year...but it is Fall now, and even though I do love it I wanted summer to stay. I do look forward to this time of year, a year of reflections and new hopes and dreams.
