PASSING THE TIME DURING THE PANDEMIC
Monday I wrote about the new normal that we are currently living in. If you missed that post you can read it here.
As we self isolate we need to find activities to do while at home. I live in Atlanta where the mayor has announced a 14 day stay at home order so I cannot just decide to go out and wander around.
Today I thought I would share some of the things I am doing to keep myself fromgoing stark raving mad becoming bored.
I have been cleaning and organizing but I wanted something else to do. After all I live in a small apartment so there is only so much of that I can do.
Along with reading and streaming these are some of the things I am doing.
There is no eating out so I am cooking and baking more.
I used to love to do jigsaw puzzles so I have ordered some from Eeboo. I ordered three of their Piece and Love puzzles. Once the stay at home rule is lifted I will share with my daughters and they will share their puzzles with me.
Amazon also has some great puzzles.
It is important to stay in close touch with families and friends so I will continue to FaceTime with my family (primarily Tessa who shoves her sister out of the room when we are on FaceTime)
Yesterday I met virtually with my new local peer group. Since we are unable to meet in person right now we used Zoom to have a group meeting. This is a nice thing to do to help us keep from feeling so isolated.
I have been feeling like a slug as I haven't been able to do much exercising. I miss my chair yoga class so I have started Chair Yoga with Adriene on You Tube. You can find that here.
I am also going to try some of the Silver Sneakers workouts on You Tube here.
Also, I have added apps on my phone to brush up on my cribbage and French.
What are some of the things that you are doing keep both your mind and body active during this stressful time?
As an Amazon affiliate I may receive a small commission on their links in this post.

Hiking
I have always loved to get outside and walk. This summer was just too hot and I missed those outdoor walks.
I love summer and I love hot weather, but I know that trying to hike when it is 95 degrees out is not a smart thing to do.
The sudden drop in temperatures to the 50's and 60's in the morning and 70's in the afternoon has been really welcome.
Wednesdays are a day that I don't have an organized exercise class so I decided to explore a park near me.
It was an interesting walk. We have been living with a drought this summer so the stream was almost dried up,
and although some of the paths were easy to walk, other were pretty challenging,
and even hard to see where the paths actually were.
I absolutely was not going to do much rock climbing, not by myself. My self preservation is pretty entrenched after all these years.
I did however climb these few rocks in order to stay on the main path. They were easy, and all of the aerobics classes I have been doing have really strengthened my legs.
My thoughts on this park are that it was lovely to be in the middle of Atlanta and feel like I was out in the woods in the country, some of the paths were hard to follow, and I felt a bit isolated.
Although I did feel isolated I never really felt unsafe and I enjoyed the quiet. The park is about a mile from my apartment so it is easy for me to get there.
I will definitely be going back there to walk, but I have lots of other parks to explore before I do that, and hopefully we will have something other that brown dead leaves to look at.

MORE EXERCISE HIGH JINKS AND IT'S A BOOBY TRAP
Well thank goodness my regular water aerobics instructor is back, but I think he was getting tips from the substitute we had because he has really stepped things up. You can read about the substitute here in case you missed it.
I guess I wasn't satisfied with all of the exercise I was getting because I decided to add a regular aerobics class once a week. The nice thing about having a Silver Sneakers membership is that you can take classes at as many places that accept the program as you want.
I have started going to Decatur every Monday morning to the thrift store because Mondays are half off days. That means everything in the store is half off of their already reduced prices. More on that in another post.
There is an aerobics class practically next door so I decided to join up. The good thing about it is it is at the hospital so when after 30 minutes of nonstop aerobics the teacher gave us a break, and while other people were getting water, I was contemplating calling 911.
Who knew I was still in such pathetic shape after over two months of the water aerobics classes.
Never fear though, I am nothing if not a masochist and since I've never actually ever had any heart problems I hung out for the weight training session.
The best thing about the class's location is that when it is over I can pop across the street to the booby trap or as you probably know it Home Goods. What is it about that store that doesn't let you get out without buying something.
I think I may have spent close to an hour in there? How is that possible? For years, due to pitiful knees, I hated to shop. Now I am like a completely different person. It was cheaper being in pain.
I did find something I was looking for though. A wall hanging coat rack. As you can see it is bare wood so I am planning to paint it. It was only $19.99.
Maintenance said they will give me some of the trim paint that is in my apartment so once I get that I can get it painted and then get them to hang it.
Friday I am planning to take my youngest daughter to lunch and spend the afternoon with her. I haven't had much of a chance to really talk to her so I am looking forward to catching up. I'll take my other daughter another time. It will be nice to have alone time with each of them.
Busy, busy.
