No, I am.....

not drunk, although you might think so if you saw some of my before photos.

I take quite a few photos for my Etsy shop and I can't tell you how many of them come out like this. Is my head crooked? Is my balance off?

Thank goodness for photo editing sites. I loved the old Picnik, which closed down, but now I divide my time between Picmonkey and Ribbet. I like them both, but I guess I am a bit partial to Ribbet because it is basically the same as Picnik.

First I rotate.

Then crop

Then because I have a very old point and shoot camera, I have to sharpen. Maps are not the easiest thing to photograph with a point and shoot, but the editing definitely helps.

Finally  I add a watermark.

Not perfect, but for maps this is quick and easy for me and I can get them listed quickly. For other things I often use some of the other tools.

Do you have a favorite site for editing and if so, what are some of your favorite tools to use?

  1. I LOVE PICASA!!!!
since i am a huge fan of Google..
    I use their "products"
    Chrome for my browser..
    Gmail for all my email..
but Picasa has been my favorite editing site since introduction!
In addition to the usual tools of straightening, cropping, highlighting, shadows etc..
Vignette is offered, as well as several other "techniques"..
    and Frames! which I LOVE..
the only thing I dislike is the choice of Fonts..
otherwise Picasa is by far the best FREE user friendly editing site..
try it..you just might like it..
come visit and check out my personal photos..
    hugs..

  2. I have a copy of Photoshop Elements (a pared down version of Photoshop). It works pretty well for me.

  3. I love Picasa, as you might well know, since I am always singing it's praises. It's quick, and easy to edit and being a Blogger girl, it's one of Googles products, so I love that too.

I noticed that Loui said she was unhappy with the choice of fonts, that's so easy to overcome. Just download fonts, on to your computer, and they will also show up in Picasa.

I have hundreds to choose from.

Vignettes are one of my most fav actions to use in Picasa, but I try not to overdo it.

  4. Wow, that's quite a transformation. Isn't it nice that we don't have to wait for things to come back from the photo store to see if they turned out? I remember developing used to take a few days. Yeesh. Now we just take a picture and fix it. Nice work!

  7. there are many beautiful vistas in Utah. the best are found in Southern Utah. Red rock and formations are spectacular. Have you seen pics of the "Delicate Arch"? o my gawsh! That is phenomenal. From where I live I love my mountains. From where I used to live I loved my mountains. Delicate Arch is about 5-6 hours away from my view.

I loved your phrase "No, I am ...not drunk". When my husband or I does something odd or strange, we will say that. or. "Are you drunk?" LOL

  8. I know what you mean about having photos that aren't straight. My husband watched me take pics one day and said every time I clicked the camera to take a picture, I moved the camera. Operator error! Ha! I bet you do that too. I use rotate almost every time I edit pics!

  11. What would we do without photo editing?? I have an old PaintShopPro that I use on a daily basis. I know it can do tons more than I know how to do, like layers and stuff, but what I use works for me. I love it. And yes, maps are always difficult, I think.

  12. You are doing a great job both with shooting and with editing! I love to use GIMP, which is a free software for photo processing.
