THE THANKSGIVING POLICE

Saturday, November 14, 2020

This week I ran up against the Thanksgiving police aka Tessa.

When I mentioned last weekend that I was going to decorate  for Christmas this week I got the evil eye. Tessa doesn't believe in decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving. Apparently it is disrespectful of Thanksgiving.

Soon I found myself defending my decision, but then I thought why am I arguing with an eight year old about my apartment. Although Tessa definitely wields some major power I won out. (Probably because I was alone in my apartment)

Wednesday I pulled out all of my Christmas decorations and went to work. How is it that I still have so many.

I got my tree up and decorated and sat down on my chair to admire it. That's when it happened, the fully decorated tree fell over. I sat staring at it in stunned silence and the first thing that I thought of was that maybe Tessa, aka the Thanksgiving police, was right. Thanksgiving was letting me know that I shouldn't be skipping over it.

After realizing how silly that was I got up, and after tying that tree to the table, I started over. Needless to say I was exhausted, but a nice cup of Christmas Thanksgiving eggnog, while sitting in my chair and admiring my handiwork, made me feel much better.

I'm not going to share the tree yet. After all I don't want the Thanksgiving police to show up at my door with a warrant for my arrest.

  3. I guess Tessa will have a laugh when she reads this post! But I DO think we need a few more twinkle lights right now and I have my little jewelry trees out to enjoy when it gets dark SO early! Enjoy your weekend!

  4. You're so funny! Got a good laugh at that last part. Enjoy that Thanksgiving (Christmas) eggnog. Did you put any alcohol in it? I never do. Maybe I should. This would certainly be the appropriate year to do it. But then, I haven't been inside a liquor store in many, many years.

  5. This all brought me to a couple of snickers and giggles. "They" definitely wield lots of power, don't they? I'm anxious and excited to see your tree.
I'm pulling things out tomorrow because I need more in my world to make me smile.

  6. I had a good laugh! No reason we can't have a "Thanksgiving tree". I've thought of doing it for years. My mom did. She had a twig branch that was in a pot somehow, and it got decorated for the different holidays, like Easter and Thanksgiving... she didn't put little lights on it, but why not? I think a little twig tree with lights (you can get them on Amazon) would be wonderful for the month of November, with little thankful messages and doo dads on it. I've always wanted to do that, just hard to find room to set it! Enjoy that nog! Marilyn

  7. Laura, I laughed about your little policegirl. Bless her heart, she wants things in order. Tessa might smile if she knew it would give you Joy. Stay safe. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

  8. Too funny! I'm on Tessa's side but I figure if twinkling lights and pretty trees are what make people happy right now, go for it! We all need whatever cheer and happiness we can find right now.
