MORE HOUSEPLANTS FOR MY INDOOR GARDEN

Monday, August 12, 2019

I have a confession. I have been houseplant shopping again for my growing indoor garden.  Last week I bought a pretty vintage basket at Half off Monday at the thrift store for $2.50.

What a steal. Right?

Here's where the problem starts. Once I got it home and looked at it for a few days I realized it would be perfect to display a couple of my houseplants. Of course as I looked around at my current plants, I realized I didn't want to move any of them.

That meant I was forced  needed wanted to purchase a couple of new plants and pots for the basket.

That seemed reasonable to me, and so after water aerobics class I headed across the street to my favorite nurseries. I left the extreme heat of the day and entered a state of nirvana.

The houseplant greenhouse's perfectly controlled climate and wandering around the plants leaves you feeling like you can grow anything.

I had so much self control it was amazing. I picked out four smallish plants and after my discount paid only $19.95. I didn't buy any pots there, instead choosing to go to Lowe's where I knew they would be less expensive.

I arrived at Lowe's with a plan to get four inexpensive clay pots, but that is where my plan began to fall apart. I wheeled in my cart and picked out four clay pots. I did get three small pots, but I also needed one larger pot. None of them were expensive. (feeling pretty proud of myself)

But wait I needed to buy saucers to go under the pots and oh look at that pretty pot over there. I know it is more expensive than a clay pot, but wouldn't it look pretty on the table by my settee, and if I put back one of the clay pots and saucers it won't be too terribly bad.

Okay, time to head to the checkout. Wait, look at those sweet little cacti and succulents right by the checkout. I really need two for that unique little planter that I have at home.

Total at checkout $35.76. So how did that basket that was a steal at $2.50 turn into another $55.71. SIGH!!!

I really need to eat less anyway and maybe this is the universe's way of telling me

STAY ON YOUR DIET, LAURA !!

That's my justification and I am sticking to it.

So worth it. Wonder what bargain I will find today.

  3. It really does look beautiful! And this money is more of an investment...the plants will thrive and you'll have them for a long time! They are healthy for your home too! Lots of good reasons to spend! heehee!

  4. Is your discount a senior discount? I don't think my nursery does that. And it's really hot in the one I go to so it's a pain to shop in summer. Your plants look great! And what a buy on the basket.

    1. It is a senior discount. They had a notice on the wall. The regular greenhouses are hot, but the one where they have the houseplants is climate controlled. The plants are a bit more expensive, but they are very healthy. I love the thrift store I go to they have great buys on Mondays.

  6. Neat basket and pretty plants! You just can't go wrong with house plants. I would have some as love them, but my cats would either knock them over or eat them! That white ceramic pot just HAD to go home with you. So pretty. And love the plants you bought. We all need a little splurge now and then, if we can at all afford it.. and yes... sometimes my splurges result in less food for the pantry! Marilyn

    1. Plants take the place of pets for me. I am allergic to cats and I really can't afford a dog so I indulge myself with the houseplants.
