THE FUN AND THE NOT SO FUN

Monday, November 19, 2018

Time really flies when you are and aren't having fun.

The not fun.

Last Sunday my mom called me in the middle of the night to tell me she had called the paramedics and she was going to the ER. She might possibly be having a heart incident.

We have been down this road several times and it turned out not to be her heart. This time it turned out to be a mild heart attack. So good thing she called, although she waited two hours before she did.

She was in the hospital three days and while she was there they sent in a wound specialist to look at a small wound that had happened three weeks earlier, had been seen by another physician, and was healing.

He walked in, applied some medical honey, slapped a bandage on it, and walked out.

The next day at home the entire bottom of her leg had turned black and looked like a mountain range was erupting. Back to the ER we went. The people in the ER said it was the most impressive hematoma they had ever seen. They  tried to drain it with no luck, wrapped it in a bandage, and said to see her doctor the next day.

They also handed me some bandages and said for me to rebandage it. Seriously??? Do I look like a medical professional? If they left it up to me she probably would have lost her leg.

The next day when we went to see her doctor I got them to send in a referral for a home health nurse.

The fun.

At that point my two daughters and three grandchildren decided to drive up from Atlanta on Thursday.

Two days with my grandchildren whom I hadn't seen since April was definitely the fun part. It actually snowed some when they arrived Thursday night and Tessa who is six was extremely excited.

Not so fun.

I woke up Sunday morning with the stomach flu, which meant I wasn't able to meet them for breakfast at Shaker Village to see them off to Atlanta.

More not so fun.

Remember my last post where I said I was having some issues with my computer? Well, it completely died. When I tried to power it on Sunday afternoon nothing happened.

Even though it wasn't in my budget, I knew I would have to break down and buy a new one. This afternoon I went to Best Buy and got a new HP computer. It was on sale for $100 off the regular price, which was good. I know that I might have been able to get a better deal on Black Friday, but do I seem like someone who goes out on Black Friday? Nope!!! Not this girl.

So that is where I have been for the last nine days. Now, as I happily type on my new computer, I am hoping that things will get back to normal, whatever that is.

Have a great day.

  1. Oh Laura. What good and not so good things you have endured. Hope your Mom is better. Wretched timing for the flu. Bummer. Thanks for your visit. Hope you are truly blessed this Thanksgiving Day. Susan

  2. Well, I am glad you got a new computer but bet you hated to spend the money at this time of year. It is nice though and I like my HP and have had good luck with it so far.

I am sorry about your mom and all her health issues. It is so hard dealing with an elderly parent and trying to meet their needs and take care of your own. Been there- done that!

Blessings to you and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. xo Diana

  3. Laura I followed along with your Mom's trip to the ER and I'm so glad she is doing OK. How wonderful that your family came to visit, but the stomach flu? That sounds like my kind of luck. Wishing you a restful week. Big Hugs!

  4. Sorry you have been ill. And also your mother. I have an HP now and love it. It is the HP Pavilion and this time around, after buying a laptop a year for the past five years, I bought a warranty for the next four years. I think I paid around $600 for the computer. Maybe a little less. I will have it paid off next month. And I don't go out on Black Friday either. I'm sure you already knew that.

  5. Oh Laura you have had some rough days. A computer going out is horrible. Glad you could find a good deal at Best Buy. Hope your mom is feeling better and her wound is healing. Have a good Thanksgiving. Hope things will turn around for you now for the better.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  6. "Not so much fun" is such a bummer... hope your mama is being better and they've taken care of her leg and wound. I think most doctor's offices these days just don't care... that shows when they wanted YOU to take care of her wound! And I hope your flu was a fast one and so glad you did get a new computer. I got a new (used) laptop last year (a Dell Inspiron) and I LOVE it so much! It's so fast and quick and although a laptop, as a big 17" screen, though I would love a bigger one even.. but I love having the laptop I can move around or take with me. What a difference from my 11 year old laptop I was using and it was SO SLOW. Hope this week is good for you and you have a nice Thanksgiving. I NEVER have gone out for Black Friday.. it just seems insane to me. Marilyn
