Fences

Author: April Carroll
There is a lot for us to do
Like mending our fences
Before the cows go through.

Search your heart and search your soul
For fences to mend
Before you're too old.

Sometimes in life things happen to us
That tear down fences
And cause mistrust.

Forgiving and forgetting is hard to do
But we must mend our fences
Before the cows go through.

Do you ever think of fences?
We have so many sayings related to fences. "good fences make good neighbors", "mend your fences" , "sitting on the fence", "don't fence me in".................

Do you erect fences? Do those fences keep people out or hold you in?

Do you ever think of fences?

I do.

  2. Laura, a very thought-provoking post AND gorgeous photos! I thought of you on Tuesday when I made my first visit to a new thrift shop near me and found some vintage Corning ware - 4 petite pans (1 3/4-cup capacity). They insired me to go home and make chicken pot pies in them!

  3. My sister owned a horse years ago, and I've always had dogs so literally "walking your fence lines" periodically to check for holes is a must. But with your post, it makes me think we should do that figuratively too! Check your life for "holes" every once in a while. Interesting post!

  5. So true. And it's just not worth it, making those fences. I'm a resolver. I hate to see people building fences in their relationships. Life is too short.

  6. Very interesting!
I want a fence in my backyard for the dog and for our privacy - but no fences out front where it should be open. So I have the choice of my private time or time to visit with neighbors!

  7. I love fences...always have....even as a kid growing up on a farm I loved the old fence lines. There were a lot of fences made out of piled rock in the mountains where I grew up. Wonderful post- Blessings- xo Diana

  8. Fences are lovely as long as there is a wide gate to welcome ideas and keep old hang-ups at bay.

  9. Is this your view where you live? It is gorgeous-I miss the country life but it gave me alot of gifts while there. Your post today reminded me of the good memories of that life.
    Thank you.

  10. The top photo reminds me of the fences we had on my farm as a child. I used to accompany my dad when he would go out to "fix fence." And, of course, I've always liked Robert Frost's poem, Mending Wall. (I've seen several of those stone fences visiting my son and his family in NH.) I'd like to think my current fences (back yard only) keep people safely in (away from traffic, dogs, etc.) -- and define my space.
