See You In September

I know September is tomorrow, sillies, but I couldn't resist playing one of my favorite teenage songs.

See You In September by The Happenings

They were performing it for the TV show "Where The Action Is"

SIGH!!! I remember it well.
Gotta go now. I'm dancing around the room. So I'll see you in September.

hidden places

Do you ever drive past a place numerous times, feel intrigued by it, want to check it out, and yet never do so?

I have driven past this sign many times on my way to Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

Doesn't it look like a place you would want to visit? It's a B & B, although the BB is hidden by the pretty knockout roses.

Yesterday, I decided to turn into the gravel road and take a look.

Are you feeling a little intrigued yet? I am (sorry the photo is not the best as it is a through the front windshield photo)

There's a stranded blue canoe off to the right.

An old log cabin ahead beckons (sorry, another blurry windshield photo)

Love this addition at the back of the log cabin with stained glass panels hanging in all the windows. I wonder what the room is used for.

and yes, there is a second log cabin.

it too has an addition in the back with a rocking chair porch.

Oh how I wish I could have stayed and lazed the afternoon away, but other places were calling my name.

Monday Shopping

Today I thought I would deviate just a bit from my random Monday Etsy window shopping. Yesterday I made a treasury on Etsy to honor some of the fine sellers on my Etsy Vintage Team, (I think one of them is not on the team, but she had such a pretty photo, I included her anyway) and I thought I would share that with you today.

Didn't these wonderfully photographed items make a beautiful treasury? It has gotten lots of views, so I guess other people think so,too.

The original treasury can be found here, and from there, you can click on the individual items. I hope you will take a look.

Well, I took the plunge and rented a booth at an antique mall. It was the original one I visited, but I got the booth right next to the new tea room that is going to be opening and I don't have to build walls. Now, all I have to do is figure out what in the world I am going to use for displays, and what I want to put in it, all while hobbling around on my injured knee. I am a crazy girl. I do finally get to see my orthopedic doctor Wednesday, so maybe I will find out what the exact damage is.

Well, guess I better get busy.

High flight

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

by John Gillespie Magee, Jr

RIP Neil Armstrong.

Thank you for what you did for our country and the world. I remember the day well when you walked on the moon. It was one of the highlights of my life, and I am sure you are touching the face of God now.

promise ahead

When I look at this new photo of my granddaughter, I see so many things. Yes, she is beautiful, but I also see promise, hope for the future, a look at all of the wonderful things that are ahead, and even if there are difficult days, difficult months, even difficult years, there is promise.

Yesterday afternoon I was feeling downright cranky. I had been to an auction and the auction was good. I bought six new things for my shop so I have some new things to list along with the other things that are sitting here waiting to be photographed.

After the auction I went to an antique mall to check out their booths, because I need to expand where I am selling. They had just opened up a new room and the spaces were just bare spots. That means I would have to build my own walls. There was a time when I could do that, but I am just not physically able to now and I was having a bad pain day from my fall.  I was feeling discouraged and cranky.

This morning when I woke up I checked my email first thing and saw there was a post from Marc and Angel Hack Life. It was titled 12 Negative Thoughts Holding You Back. The article was very good and I recommend that you read it.

Number 12 said this:

“I don’t have time to dream.” – The real tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your dream; it lies in having no dream to reach.  Devote yourself to an idea you believe in.  Follow your gut.  Overcome your fears.  Work on it.  Struggle with it.  Smile about it.  Make it happen.  This is your life and your dream – no one else’s.  And remember, you don’t have to see the whole staircase; you just have to take one step at a time.

So today. I am taking another step. I will visit another mall, and talk to another person and I will keep going until I find the best place for me. And I will smile and follow my gut. Yes, I may struggle with it, but I know I can make it happen. I have made many other seemingly impossible things happen in the past.

I am a woman, and we women are strong, and I have a wonderful support system in you, my friends.

keep pedaling

Do you ever feel like you are pedaling faster and faster and not moving one inch. Some days are just like that for me.

You know how it is. You start the day off with a burst of energy, writing your blog, making your bed, checking your shop, packing up all the sales from the day before (kaching), vacuuming with one hand while using your cane with the other (ouch, not a good idea).......then you check your email.

You have 86 new emails!!!

How can that be. I've been good. I've been answering my emails. I flossed like the dentist told me to (okay Laura, it is not a good idea to lie and if you do, then when all your teeth fall out from failure to floss, the tooth fairy will not visit you)  SIGH!!!

I googled tooth fairy and a wall hanging I made a few years ago popped up. I had forgotten all about it. Wasn't it just too cute? Has a little pocket in the front for a tooth.

I know, I digress. Probably why I have so many unanswered emails.

So where is this all leading? It is leading to the Land of Excuses. It was the land I visited quite often as a child when I failed to do my homework.

Excuse me if I somehow missed your comment, or failed to read your absolutely stupendous blog post, or didn't respond to your chain letter (you do remember those don't you?) The dog ate my computer, I was kidnapped by a group of aliens and taken to their planet (ha ha, no they were not taking me back home), my great Aunt Lucille dropped in on her way back from Poughkeepsie.......

Okay, the truth is I got the new Linda Castillo book from the library and couldn't put it down.

She writes an Amish thriller series. If you like good mysteries she is a fabulous writer. Start with the first one, though, and be prepared, because they are a bit graphic.

So, I am a little behind, and I may not get caught up, but i promise to keep pedaling.....as soon as I get past this really good part.

life goes on

I have always been a big fan of Robert Frost and yes, no matter what road we choose to travel, no matter what befalls us, good or bad, life goes on.

Just a simple thought for the day.

Monday shopping list

I don't know about you, but we are having some cooler weather and it has me yawning and stretching this morning. I am thinking ahead to fall weather and the desire to curl up with a nice hot cup of tea while browsing Etsy for things to add to my wish list.

So grab your second cup of tea or coffee, because it is Monday which means it is shopping on Etsy day.

Please click on the price for the item and the shop name to see other lovelies from the seller.

I love this sweet little Irish cottage. It has me dreaming of a trip to Ireland's countryside.

life's changes

As summer begins to slip away and autumn approaches, I feel a tad nostalgic.

It seems like only yesterday that my daughters looked like this. Sharing wonderful times together. The three of us.

Now my oldest daughter is the mother of three.

and she is sharing those special moments with her children.

My younger daughter is a loving aunt.

Time marches on. My mother recently turned 88 and she is starting to tire more easily.

So today, my sister, my mother, and I had a bit of a family pow wow. We went and ate lunch at one of our favorite restaurants and talked about some changes we need to make.

My mom wants to move into a retirement apartment next summer and I think it is a great idea. She will have all her meals taken care of, there are lots of activities (she is still a very social person), and it will take away a lot of stress for her. My sister and her husband may also move into the same complex, which would be nice for all of them.

As for me, I would like to move on down the road to Atlanta to be near my children and grandchildren.

So there are a lot of things to accomplish over the next year. I have decided to go ahead and get my other knee replaced in the next few months. We will have to sort through all of my mom's possessions and decide what few things she will want to take to her new apartment, what my sisters and brother  and myself may want to keep, and what to discard. It is a monumental task.

Yes there are changes in the air. Life is moving forward, and I plan to embrace it.

kitchen inspiration

As I am stuck at home with my knee propped on a pillow, once again, I thought I would cheer myself up with some inspirational kitchens. I can't possibly keep all of these lovelies to myself, so of course I am sharing them with you.

You might not have your knee propped up on a pillow, but I bet you could use some kitchen inspiration too, and if you want to prop your knee up on a pillow, who am I to stop you. It gets you out of doing a lot of things.

I am loving this painted white farm table and why didn't I think of using an old gate as a pot holder.

kitchen as an herb garden

a kitchen buffet

What could be better than a farmhouse sink with a feedsack skirt.

Blue ball jars and white ironstone on an old painted shelf. Perfect!!!

I just love scruffy old farm tables

Well, I am off to do something really radical. I am going to take two extra strength Tylenol and watch an old movie !!

meet Klara Klutz

Have you met Klara Klutz? You have, you say?

You know Klara. She's that girl who trips over things, walks into things, drops things................

Ahhhh, yes, Klara Klutz is me.

Three days ago I was finally able to stop using my cane after three months. So exciting. I am finally able to say I am happy I had the knee replacement done. Yesterday I took a package to the post office, because the carrier had failed to make the scheduled pickup at my house the day before. I dropped it in the bin, turned around, caught my toe on the edge of the self-serve kiosk, and went sprawling on the concrete floor. Fortunately I landed on the non surgical knee and hip. Spent the afternoon in the ER and I am now back on a walker with my knee immobilized. Soft tissue damage. (soft tissue damage hurts like the dickens) So yes, call me Klara Klutz.

In the words of John Steinbeck, the best laid plans of mice and men (or woman) often go awry.

Changes in the air

What is it about this time of the year that makes us think of changes. Is it the change in the light? I notice that it is becoming softer.

Maybe it's the change in our gardens. Some of the flowers are becoming leggy, letting us know that their time is almost over.

Children are returning to school. I can hear them outside my bedroom window, early in the morning as they make their way to the school bus.

These things are telling me that summer is winding down and soon it will be autumn.

I have noticed that others are feeling the changes, too. They are talking about changes in their emotions and changes to their blogs.

It's a special time of year. I can almost feel magic in the air.

Yes, changes come for all of us. It's a part of life. It's how we embrace these changes that matters. And, we also know that as much as things change, so many things stay the same. It is the constants in our lives that help us to embrace the changes.

happiness is.............

being 5 weeks old and having your tickle spot found for the first time

as we get older, we really begin to realize that it is the simple things in life that make us the happiest

the smile of a child

seeing your grandchildren accomplish new things (hey, I think Sid has my Olympic gold medal)

learning to live in the here and now. by putting past mistakes behind us we allow ourselves to be filled with the joy, love, peace, healing, and freedom of the present moment.

it's a wonderful lesson to all of us as we traverse the stressful world we live in.
