ONE FINE DAY AND THEN

Tuesday was one fine day.

It was a day that is normally typical for April in Kentucky.

The sun was shining, a breeze was blowing, and the temperature rose into the seventies.

Pretty much perfect.

And then last night...WOW...

A severe storm rolled through here and everything changed.

Lightning, thunder, winds over 70 miles an hour, and the threat of tornadoes.

After that the temperature plummeted. The wind chill was 25 degrees when I got up this morning, and although the sun is shining it is still cold out.

I'm so glad I stocked up on groceries yesterday and ran all of my other errands, because I refuse to take off my sandals and cropped pants. I'm just that stubborn. I think this guy feels like I do.

The forecast for Saturday says snow and an overnight low of 19 degrees. REALLY???

I plan to stick my sandal clad feet up to the window and tell Mother Nature she can take a hike.

HELLO SPRING....SHOWERS

Spring is definitely here in Kentucky,

and when spring comes so do showers. I usually think of April as having the showers, but we have definitely been a month ahead this year.

Don't you just love this sweet spring tote? I won it in a giveaway from one of my favorite bloggers, Kris at Junk Chic Cottage

I know that most of you know Kris, but if you don't you will want to read her blog. She is on a little break right now, but go on over and read her old posts.

The warm weather and all of the rain we are having is greening up our landscape and bringing back the color in the flowers and the trees.

The azaleas, here in Kentucky, are beautiful this year.

I was really worried about the weeping cherry trees after the hard freeze we had recently, but they have blossomed and are gorgeous.

I love this view at the Lexington Cemetery. It is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever been in and is where most of my family is buried.

I always like to spend a little time talking to my dad when I go. He was so smart and when I am going through difficult times I miss his wisdom.

Has spring arrived where you are. I see that some of you still have quite a bit of snow. I hope spring showers wash it away soon.

WHERE DID SPRING GO?

Spring was in full bloom when I arrived in Atlanta last week.

The colors were magnificent.

I had almost forgotten how wonderful the azaleas are in the deep south.

They were everywhere.

The other spring flowers were blooming too. Not sure what these are, but they made the perfect blanket cascading down some stone steps.

The trees were also blooming and  were reaching for a gorgeous blue spring sky.

It was perfect until winter came roaring back bringing rain and much colder temperatures.

Now I am back home wondering where it went. However, at least we are not suffering the brutal snowstorm that has hit so many of you.

Next week spring will officially begin, and I for one can't wait.

YELLOW IS THE COLOR OF....

Yellow is the color of my true love's hair.... or in the case here, it is the color of spring.

We have definitely jumped into spring early here. With record high temperatures this past week everything is starting to bloom.

The forsythia is escaping its confines.

Even the dandelions are poking up their little heads.

But my favorite sign of spring is the yellow daffodils. I know when I see them that we are starting to put winter behind us.

Yesterday as I was out driving around I couldn't believe how much things had changed over a couple of days. Leaves are popping out on trees and bushes, and there are pink and white blossoms everywhere.

I had hoped to get out and take some more photos today, but an evil wind blew in last night and today is forty degrees colder than yesterday. I think those photos will have to wait.

Thank you for all of your kind words about my mom. She is gradually getting better. I can tell because she is grumpy. I had to give her a talking to this morning about the importance of taking a shower and getting herself going. I think it will make her feel better.

Have a wonderful Saturday.

SPRING-ING

I have been struck down with a fever this week. Spring fever to be exact. Balmy days, singing birds, and blossoming trees and flowers have been calling my name.

There is something about seeing daffodils blooming that lifts me out of whatever winter funk I have been in.

Their cheery yellow faces tell me that yes, there may be cool weather ahead (after all it isn't officially spring yet), but we will not go back to those dark days of January and February.

There is a spring in my step as I am finding new blossoms every day.

They are literally bursting out everywhere.

What could be better than looking up at a spring sky through a tree bursting with pink blossoms.

Even Sammy, the usually shy neighborhood feral cat, came out to tell me how glad he is that spring is here.

Yep, I've definitely got it bad. I'm calling this new way of life spring-ing.

OUT WITH THE NEW, IN WITH THE OLD

It seems like only yesterday that I was gleefully buying a new fall and winter wardrobe. It had been a while since I had splurged like that, but the legging, jeggings, sweaters, and boots were calling my name.

Now, I am ready to fold those babies up and stash them in a place that I can't see.

March is here, and with it has come a forecast for much warmer temps. I am definitely not one to look a warm weather gift horse in the mouth, so I will be pulling out some cotton pants and tops.

I'm not sure my budget stretches to a new spring and summer wardrobe, so I will have to see what I have from last year.

This changing of the seasons from winter to spring has always excited me and this year is no exception.

I plan to enjoy every bit of warm weather, so if you are looking for me I will be sitting on the patio, taking long walks, enjoying the flowers, and hitting the yard sales. But first I will be diving into my drawers to pull out those comfortable old warm weather clothes.

What do you look forward to each spring?

SPRING GLORIOUS SPRING

No, there hasn't been a time warp, but on Saturday for one glorious day it felt like there had been.

The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the temperature hovered around 72 degrees in the afternoon.

PERFECTION!!!

How wonderful it was to toss boots into the coat closet, snub my nose at a jacket, and head out into pure bliss.

Kids were out skateboarding and playing basketball in their shorts and tee shirts, and adults were riding around in convertibles with the tops down.

It's amazing how a rise in the temperature accompanied by sunshine can lift your spirits.

Yes, this week will see a return to some winter weather, but for one wonderful day it was spring glorious spring.

March is just around the corner. I don't know about you, but I can't wait.

How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

lazy day

I started out very gung ho early this morning. Got up cleaned the kitchen, cleaned out the refrigerator, made my green juice and fixed a lovely breakfast.

After that I don't know what happened. I think the busy last couple of weeks caught up with me. I went back to bed and slept two hours. I never do that, but I guess I must have needed it.

When I woke I could hear the sound of freezing rain hitting my windows. What a change from yesterday. It was 64 degrees and I took a walk to enjoy the warm day. Winter just doesn't seem to want to let go of its icy grip just yet.

But yesterday there was this.

Oh little purple crocus how you made my heart sing. What joy there was to see your beautiful face.

As I returned home I saw that the tulips were three inches out of the ground.

So, Old Man Winter, you can have your last bit of fun, because you won't last long. Tuesday the temperature will climb back up to 60 degrees and I will be on the hunt for some daffodils.

Spring officially arrives in four days and I cannot wait to shut the door on winter.

I hope you are seeing some signs of spring, too.

sproing

I woke up feeling a little dizzy this morning. That always happens when I spring forward in the night.

My grandmother's old mantle clock stopped ticking awhile ago, but phones, computers, and cable TV boxes magically spring forward on their own. It keeps me from forgetting that I am suddenly an hour older.

That's okay, because I will get that hour back next fall.

In the meantime, spring will officially arrive in 11 days, and that has me thinking all kinds of springy, sproingy things.

It will stay lighter later. Flowers will start to bloom. Spring cleaning and the airing out of the house will commence. Hats, boots, gloves, and big old coats will get put back in the closet. Cropped pants and sandals will appear.

I am ready for it all.

SPROING!!!
