It's part of my personality. I like things in order and schedules. However, I do think having some qualities of a free spirit is beneficial because it helps you enjoy life more in general. I will probably never truly be a free spirit but I will try to have days when I can adopt some of those qualities. There's always the 'push-pull' between what is practical and what is possible though. As for pleasing others, we all want to do that if we're honest, but the difference between free spirits and those that aren't are they're not willing to pay the sometimes heavy price that comes with always being a people pleaser.

Lovely, thought provoking post Laura. So I have three part-time jobs but can set many of my hours of busyness. So wonderful. I also listen to others but still beat to my own drum. Very freeing. I try very hard to distance myself from negative people. Free spirits want to be free from negativity, too! Nice column. At the same time, while I have not described myself as a "free spirit", my actions indicate otherwise. I'm always stretching myself to do things outside of my comfort zone, following my dreams, going out on a limb to stand up for what I believe in, living in the moment, laughing easily and a lot. But I believe that what helped me get to this place is my faith in a God that teaches me that I can do anything with His help and also gives me the courage to try without being afraid of what others may say. There is total freedom in this kind of faith and the "compliant child" part is just me trying to be like Jesus. It is not a burden, but helps me know what is best. Sorry if I got "too religious" about it but it's the only way I know to describe this kind of balance in my life. sandyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09955726953146797249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1791860108829806850.post-53290433775306441662015-10-16T10:40:58.006-04:002015-10-16T10:40:58.006-04:00I'm learning as I get older that it matters le...I'm learning as I get older that it matters less and less to me what others think. To happily pursue my own dreams as long as they don't infringe or hurt others in my life...and to find that balance when I am needed by others so I can give what I need to give without depleating myself...it's not easy but it's getting better all the time...now I'm going to float off into the garden with my camera and wispy scarf...grazing the dew off of the petals...after all I'm a free spirit in training....

Laura I loved this post, it reminds me that in order to be there for others, we have to be there for ourselves!RURAL https://www.blogger.com/profile/11871803235521431504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1791860108829806850.post-45740640751052846952015-10-16T09:52:00.602-04:002015-10-16T09:52:00.602-04:00I have been working on giving myself permission to...I have been working on giving myself permission to just be me and enjoy life.
