"Unless someone can look into the core of your heart and see the degree of your passion, or look into the depths of your soul and see the extent of your will, then they have no business telling you what you can or cannot achieve. Because while they may know the odds, they do not know you. Nor do they know the power of your angels."
                                                          -Sandra King

I need to paste this on my mirror and read it several times a day to remind myself that I am the expert on me.

What makes others want to hold us back, to determine the course of our lives? Is it their fear that we may follow our dreams and be happy? Is it their fear that we may somehow surpass them?

While they are clinging to their old ways, we are forging ahead and taking the road less travelled. Because taking the road less travelled leads us to unexplored and unimaginable places.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost

We have to be willing in life to make mistakes, because those mistakes help to teach us and they help to set us on our own right path. We have to be willing to dance to the beat of our own drum, to move forward with purpose.

It may not always be easy and it may be met with resistance, but in the end we will know that we have followed our hearts and that is where satisfaction lies.

  1. Who is raining on your parade, Laura? No way (at this age) would I tolerate that from anyone. Then again, I'm pretty sure there is no one like that in my life BECAUSE I wouldn't tolerate it now. I'm sorry that you are having to. :(

    1. I don't tolerate it much anymore either, Gwen but I think it is something that happens to a lot of women. :)

  2. Interesting post, Laura. It reminds me of a time, years ago, when a woman said to me, 'Why don't you just be yourself!' I've never forgotten that, because, actually, I WAS being myself. It's just that the self I was being isn't what she wanted me to be. I think it was even before that that I knew I wasn't going to meet everyone's approval. Besides, when I am accepted for who I am by the loving Creator of the universe, no one else's opinion really matters that much, does it.

  3. Sometimes we are the ones most holding ourselves back. I try hard not to let anyone...including that. Lovely post, Laura!

  4. I have found that when I follow my heart and my intuition - and not listened to what others said - it turned out to be for the best. I think sometimes that when others nay-say what you're doing, it's because they are jealous. They are seeing in themselves what they "wish" they could be doing.

  5. I think sometimes we can be our own worse enemies of holding ourselves back. I think as women we try to please others and embrace the nurturing in ourselves. So old habits are hard to break but I am working on not letting myself hold me back. Great post Laura.

  6. Such a beautiful post Laura. All very true. I think one of the great blessings of ageing is wisdom and perspective. I am thankful for my age and for these gifts that it brings.

  7. It's hard when we go against what others in our lives might think we should be doing...I've come up against that more then a little in the later part of my life. But it's our life...we need to take charge and do what works for us.

  8. I make choices about my life with God's guidance so I feel confident in my decisions. If others don't like it, well, that's not my problem. And I say this with love for that person who may not agree with me but I cannot control what other people think.

  9. I will write both of these quotes in my journal tonight. I don't know the answers to the questions you raise but I know since I have distanced myself from some people, I've been able to 'soar'! Enjoy your weekend my friend. I'm going to keep this post open until I get this written down. You and me both! Hugs, Diane
