As a teenager, I can remember my mom turning on the hi-fi in our living room. She would open up the top of the cabinet (the one we weren't allowed to touch) and she would put on her favorite records. One of her favorite singing artists was Andy Williams. I loved his soft style.
Today, Andy Williams passed away at the age of 84 after a career that spanned nearly three quarters of a century.
RIP Mr. Williams. It will be hard to get used to losing you. Thanks for your wonderful legacy of music.

Indeed, Andy Williams was a true icon.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see another one gone...
ReplyDeleteO my Gosh! I loved Andy Williams. He sings "Canadian Sunset" which is my husby's and my's love song! Yes, May God Blessings be with his family.
ReplyDeleteOnce I was alone
So lonely and then
You came, out of nowhere
Like the sun up from the hills
Cold, cold was the wind
Warm, warm were your lips
Out there, on that ski trail
Where your kiss filled me with thrills
A weekend in canada, a change of scene
Was the most I bargained for
And then I discovered you and in your eyes
I found the love that I couldn’t ignore ...
Sister Mary Theresa played Moon River in typing class in high school in 1967.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I hear Moom River - I think -- fff fff jjj jjj fff jjj fjfj fjfj . . . .
Laura, you were so nice to post this tribute, not only to Andy Williams but also to so many of our memories. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to hear this this morning. It may sound silly but his version of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" is one of my holiday favorites. Love Moon River too!
ReplyDeleteAll of our childhood icons are leaving us...sad.
ReplyDeleteJen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
He used to put on the best TV Christmas Shows way back when!
ReplyDeleteWe listened to Andy Williams in our house too. I always thought he was so handsome. Remember his Christmas specials on tv?
ReplyDeleteHe was a favorite! Our wedding song for our first dance was Moon River.
ReplyDeleteHe sang "The Lord's Prayer" at my wedding (via recording, of course), and The Man and I got to see him in person a couple of times. Simply magnificent. He will be missed.
ReplyDeleteWell, I haven't heard anyone say hi-fi in a really long time! My parents had a gigantic stereo in a teak cabinet with radio and record player. That was a beautiful piece of furniture and not a bad stereo either. I used to love to look through all my parents' record albums -- Eartha Kitt, Broadway tunes, etc. I remember Andy Williams from his TV show. He was a class act.
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to see this! I had such a crush on Andy Williams when I was young! I thought his singing was dreamy and so was he!! I will miss him, he was a wonderful man!
ReplyDeleteI loved him. I remember him as a kid watching, his Christmas Specials. We loved them and his show and that voice.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
