Ahhhhh!! Sunday was one of those perfect days. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, the sky was a perfect blue, there was a soft breeze, and the trees behind my house were redolent (don't you love that word) with beautiful hanging clusters of white flowers. (I wish I could tell you what these trees are called. My mother did tell me two days ago, but I immediately forgot.) Looking up was wonderful.
Looking down and around, not so good. This is where the ugh comes in.
There were messy broken pots on the potting bench.
weeding and cleaning to be done in the flower beds, and that little guy that you see has a chunk out of it. It is going to be cleaned and given a new paint treatment.
there were broken and weed filled pots
the patio and the furniture were filthy, even though they had been covered over the winter.
the secret garden was completely overgrown
so while my mother enjoyed a leisurely afternoon watching the horses run at Keeneland, I weeded, clipped, scrubbed, and tossed (especially all those plastic pots that my mother wouldn't let go of) and things are starting to get in shape for the spring planting in a couple of weeks.
Everywhere you look this time of the year there is quite a list to do. Looking up at my house I see trees that need topping. Maybe I will just close my eyes and enjoy the breeze first. Good luck.
our amazing warm weather in March gave me a little jump on cleaning out the flower beds, but I have the same weedy pots and filthy patio furniture living at my house. unfortunately we are back to freeze warnings so it will have to wait a while longer. a little jealous that you have a secret garden...
Wonderful! It's great to get the garden spruced up in the spring. I am always so much more enthusiastic in spring than in August! I did some weeding over the weekend and clipped dead branches off the spirea today. They are just about to bloom.
Yep...good and bad...always comes with each Season, doesn't it? The sky and trees are beautiful...and so will all the gardens be when you get them all cleaned up. I sooo need to get outside and get busy. You put me to shame. Blessings..xo Diana
It looks like you had a busy productive day. It probably felt good to start making a dent in it though. Just when I think I'm done with my "to do" list, another item goes on there. It never ends! Arrrggghh! Oh well. That's life.

ReplyDeleteThere's always so much work to be done outdoors this time of year! It'll be worth all that work...eventually!
ReplyDeleteI've done a little work on my deck garden but need to clean up pots and get ready for some new plants.
