LIVING SIMPLE IN A NEW YEAR

Wednesday, January 3, 2018

Happy New Year everyone. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season.

I really enjoyed being with my family. The grand kids are perfect and it was wonderful to spend time with my daughters.

As much as I love the holidays, I am always happy when the new year starts. It feels like there is a clean slate to write on, and I have been thinking about what I want to write on that slate this year.

I don't make resolutions, but I do try and set some goals for myself.

I am working on what those goals are, but I know from experience that life will intervene and goals have to be flexible.

One thing that I want to focus more on is living a simpler life even in this complex world that we live in.

I want my small apartment to be a haven from all of the complexities of the outside world. I want to be able to close my door and know that I can choose to turn off and tune out if I want.

Now I will have to decide how to do that amidst the activist work that I am doing.

For me just thinking about focusing on a simpler life brings about a sense of peace.

Do you have plans for this new year?

    1. Life outside of our homes is so complicated that I think it is important to keep our lives inside our homes as simple as possible.

  4. My home is my haven but I do need to simplify more. As in getting organized and getting rid of stuff I don't need...which I've been saying I want to do for far too long, I actually need to get motivated and do it! Good luck to us! Happy New Year, Laura. xx Cheryl

  5. Hi Laura,
My home is my sanctuary away from everything too. I like that you are setting goals that are flexible. Simple is better I think for all of us. Happy New Year.

  6. We're staying around home for January while we're doing our version of No-Spend/Low-Spend January. Meanwhile, with all the stay at home time, we're purging and simplifying our house too and getting all the projects finished that have been hanging around for much too long.

    1. I like the no spend/low spend idea. January with its cold weather is a good time to just stay home.

  7. I am also on a journey to simplify life. It is not always easy but I find that just focusing on the notion brings a sense of peace. And I must say - what a lovely home you have.
