IS SUMMER WANING?

Why is it that summer seems to fly by so quickly?

barn summer country

Just when I am beginning to settle into it I look at the calendar and realize that September it almost here.

Winter always passes so slowly for me.

It feels like I am chugging along on a slow train.

Then summer arrives and suddenly I am on a super train barreling forward to another winter.

I want to bottle it all up. The lazy days. The fresh produce. Simple meals.

I want to take more leisurely drives in the Kentucky countryside, opening my windows to breathe in the warm air.

Yesterday I found myself planning a Labor Day luncheon with friends. One of my friends said Labor Day was just two weeks away.

WAIT! WHAT? SIGH!

I am going to do my best to enjoy what is left of summer. How about you? Do you have plans for the rest of summer?

  1. I know how you feel, Laura! Winter in Wisconsin is even colder and longer, and I already feel it breathing down my neck! Kids heading back to school, sumac turning orange and red, apples ripening. It's all way too soon. We have had (and have) so much going on in August and September and part of October, that I'm afraid even fall is going to go zooming by. I'm hoping to take note of it and be outdoors as much as possible. Love your barn photo. So beautiful.

  2. Well, I will be so glad to see the end of summer. It is so hot and humid where I live. I walk early and run errands in the morning. By afternoon, it is too miserable to be outside. I would love to fast forward to fall. We are just completing a second week of 90+ days with high humidity. Add to that the ticks, mosquitoes, poison oak, etc. Fall is the absolute most wonderful time of the year. What is not to like about fall! I have already changed out some of my summer quilts on my walls for fall quilts. They make me smile each time I see them and remind me that we should soon have cooler nights and lower humidity. Hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer!

  8. This summer has just sped by for me too. Where did May go? June? July? it buzzed by so fast I don't even remember July! and August? it's not almost at an end? it can't be! I'm like you.. Labor Day? What? that's supposed to be WAY in the future! I plan to just try to enjoy each day, even though it's still way too hot for me! We have company coming this weekend (my son) for a few days... then no more company for awhile.. I would like to see September as a "free" month of having do nothing days, sightseeing trips and enjoying some colorful trees up in the mountains. Seems like this summer all I've done is work work work in our yard and flower gardens and haven't really had much fun. I hope Sept. can be a fun month... lazy days.. and even October.. maybe a drive to the coast to enjoy the changing colors.. that's my fave thing to do in the Fall... Marilyn

  9. Laura, I too am clinging to the last sweet days of this summertime. I do not want it to end....I feel it has gone by way too quickly. I like simple meals of no cooking too. :):) Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
