THE IMPORTANCE OF GRATITUDE.

Everyday I have to remind myself to be grateful.

This morning as I was sitting here resting my knee (Yes I did a bit too much. So easy to do.) I reminded myself how grateful I am for my little apartment.

I waited so long for a place of my own again, and sometimes in the craziness of life I have to stop and remind myself how fortunate I am to have this apartment and be surrounded by the things that I love and hold dear.

The things I have give me comfort and a sense of home.

I do miss my family and know that I want to be closer to them, but I am filled with gratitude for a safe place and so many new friends.

Practicing gratitude, feeling thankful, is good for our health.

If we look around us there are so many small things we can feel grateful for.

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Gratitude means different things to people, but for me it signifies a sense of thankfulness.

In these crazy times we can often feel hopeless, and it can seem difficult to find things we can be grateful for, but if we lose the ability to feel grateful we will be lost.

So I am making a vow today. I will renew my efforts to feel a sense of gratitude. I will find at least one new thing each day to be thankful for.

Today I am thankful for my home.

  3. Laura, There's always something we can be grateful for in our lives. Even a good coffee, or someone calls ...it's little things most often...but be grateful for any happy moment. Some times I will get the blues...but then I will think of my children...I know my girls love me. I know I am blessed. I am wishing you good health and happiness. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
    p.s. I like your apartment.

    1. Thanks. I like my apartment too, Susie. I agree with you. Even on the days that life seems to be the worst, if we stop we can find something to be grateful for.

  6. I recently discovered your blog and I am enjoying your posts. Yes, it is so good to focus on what is positive in our life instead of what we lack. I also live in a little apartment, but it is comfortable and I have made it a home and I try focus on being grateful for what I have.

  7. And there is a saying - "Gratitude for the good in life increases the good." This is real and true. Even if you don't quite get how it works just surrender and practice gratitude. Infinite blessings will come to you.

  8. So true, Laura. Being grateful is, I find, even more meaningful, when it is especially difficult to feel, whether it be due to private reasons or public ones - the unbelievable things that are taking place in our world, for example. The effort itself, in trying, and ultimately, getting, to the state of gratitude at such challenging times, is what I'm always thankful for.

Happy Sunday and Memorial Day, tomorrow,
    Poppy:)
