LAZY SUMMER DAYS AWAIT

I have decided that I definitely need some lazy summer days. All of the stress I have had lately has caused my autoimmune problems to kick up and I have been getting very little done because of it. Just stretched too thin I guess.

I set myself down this past weekend and decided to make some changes for the summer. I will be slowing down, which is a hard thing for me to do. My sister says I am like a jumping jack that can't sit still for one minute. I see something that needs to be done, or I think of something I want to do and I jump right up and do it. The problem right now is that my body is not cooperating with my mind. My doctor was giving me some stern looks the last time I went in.

So, I have had to see where I can cut back on things for awhile. My booth at the antique mall is stuffed to the gills. That will be the first place I will cut back. I need to sell what I have in there because I am planning to move to Atlanta in a few months and won't be taking those things with me. That means no more time spent going to yard sales and endless auctions for awhile. Also I will only have to go by the booth once a week to fluff and to adjust prices.

The second business I have is my Etsy shop. As that will be an ongoing business when I move I need to keep it going and I really need to get more things sold from there. I don't want to move everything I have in the shop with me and also I need the income Fortunately I still have more inventory to add, so I will be pushing the shop more on social media this summer.

Finally there is this blog. For the summer months I will be cutting my schedule back to two postings a week on Mondays and Fridays. I have just not had the energy to do the things that I want with it and post five to seven times a week. I want to spend more time visiting your blogs and leaving comments. I want to cultivate new readers and hopefully more friendships. I want to work on my social media. I have ideas for the blog that I want to have time to sit down and think about. I am hoping to do some of these things, sitting on my patio with my feet up, while sipping on a nice cold organic lemonade.

I am also planning on a trip to Atlanta to visit my daughters and grandchildren. I've been saving my pennies for car repairs on my faithful old car so that I can make the trip soon.

I am looking forward to getting back some simplicity and serenity in my life. What better time than summer to do just that. I hope you will stick with me while I go through some changes. The friendships I have with you mean so much to me.

  1. I'll stick with you, Laura :) Good luck with your sales.

As far as cooking dinner right now (another post of yours)... salads or BBQ and that's it. My oven hasn't been turned on in two weeks. I hope the heatwave is over soon... yuck.

    Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Rue. The weather has actually cooled off here, but I'm still slacking in the cooking department :)

  3. I hope you can slow down a bit and let some of that stress go. That mind-body connection is a very powerful force! I have IBS and it really flares when I'm feeling stressed or anxious (which is a lot of the time, unfortunately). Yoga and meditation do help a little, but yeah, you gotta slow down to do those things, too. I'm a doer like you, so I know it's hard to hard to just relax for awhile sometimes. Blessings to you!

    1. It is hard, Melanie, but sounds like you need to slow down some too. I have let my meditation practice go and so I am going to get back into that.

  5. Laura, these sound like some good decisions. I am trying to rest a bit more right now. Summer is busy and the heat seems to have gotten to me. I'm still blogging as I can but so many other things are just waiting til I have the energy to come back to them.
    hugs,
    Linda

  6. You are so right to take of yourself during these stresses. All we can do is rest more, eat well, do stretches and a bit of exercise. Find positive quotes to improve you daily life so your body can heal. I wish you all the best as you accomplish a few things here and there toward your move.

  7. Great post and great idea. Laura life is too short to go through it at a high speed. I think the slowing down will be good for you. Sounds like you have a great plan.

  10. I enjoy your blog and getting to know you Laura. Taking a break for me has meant better posts and clarity. I think it's amazing just how much posting you have done!!! I couldn't do that at least not in the three years I've been blogging. I wish you the best on your break.
