CARRY ON

Yesterday I withdrew from the internet. I let the emails pile up in my inbox, and then this morning I went in and deleted most of them. I didn't respond to comments on this blog. Sorry about that, but I have read them and I appreciate your concern about my health so much. Your sweet words always comfort me.

To be honest, I just haven't been feeling well, and I was concerned that it was new symptoms related to my neuropathy.

I love my new doctor. Back in July, on Women Speak, we talked about the problem of finding a doctor who listens to you. You can read that here. I now have that doctor. He was right there in front of me. He is my mom's doctor and he was my daughter's doctor when she was a teenager. He is a knowledgeable doctor who listens and above all really cares, and he takes my insurance. HOORAY!!

I am having problems with the pain from my neuropathy, and he bumped up my medication a bit to see if I can tolerate it. I don't tolerate pharmaceuticals very well and try to use alternative treatments when possible. The other symptoms, however seem to be from an acute sinus infection and fluid behind my ears. So I am on an antibiotic for that.

The good news is that I have lowered my blood pressure through juicing. A few years ago my blood pressure was really high. Yesterday it was 118/74. Perfect. I have shared what I juice in the past, but I know some of you have asked me about it so I am happy to share it again. I have tweaked it somewhat through research. I use an inexpensive juicer that my younger sister found for me on Ebay.

Laura's Juicing recipe.

handful of dandelion greens (from Whole Foods)
stalk of organic celery (I just recently added this)
ginger root
turmeric root
one organic apple
half of a lemon
carrot

I try to make sure it is all organic, but I definitely never use anything but organic apples, carrots, and celery because of pesticides.

So today I will carry on with my normal routine as long as my brain isn't too foggy from the meds. The sun is shining and it's warmer. Thank goodness for a reprieve.

Have a wonderful day.

P.S. For those of you who expressed concern about Women Speak, I will definitely not be giving it up. I may change the day of the week for it and I may do it every other week. I haven't made a decision yet. I am working on some other ideas, too. I will be sharing one of those ideas later this week.

  1. hurray for the lower blood pressure, I'm so glad you found a doctor who listens, I think we should always keep an open mind to alternative medicines and a blend of both types is always a good idea, I use several alternative, methods, but hope to always have the common sense to know when traditional is the best.I use oregano oil as an anti biotic properties mild , coconut oil pulling to keep toxins out and healthy gums,, cider vinegar for hair rinse tummy upset, balancing PH, I use magnesium Natures calm for muscle aches, I use sea salt as a gargle and sinus flush with added ingredients, and try use food as my medicine as well, I was put on a PPI ( Prilosec ) after it was discovered I had serious silent gerd, I tried to get myself off Prilosec and almost died, its a hard row to hoe, knowing whats the best but trust in our health provider is crucial, sadly I have none of that, I wish for you healthy happy pain free days,

    1. Thank you. I love using a blend of eastern and western medicine, Laurie. I could never find an integrative doctor who takes my insurance, but I am happy to have someone who listens and knows that I am in control of my own body. Sounds like you are doing a lot of good things for your health. I love coconut oil.

  3. Laura, so sorry to hear you are in pain. I have a juicer sitting in my cabinet. I need to break it out and try it again. Your recipe looks refreshing. How many times a day do you drink the juice? I would love to get off of my medication. Debbie

    1. Thank you, Debbie. You should pull that juicer out. I think it is the best thing I have done for my health. I juice once a day. I do it first thing in the morning before breakfast. Of course I would never tell anyone to get rid of their medicine without consulting their doctor, but there are so many benefits in good foods and herbs. :)

  7. I can really relate to your neuropathy pain. I have the same problems myself and the right medication is essential to feeling better. Glad you found a doctor that truly cares about your health, that is half the battle and hope your sinus issues clear up as well. I know I need to change my eating habits and I've been thinking about getting a juicer and creating healthy drinks with fresh fruits and veggies, so thanks for the recipe!

  8. All the best from me here in a wet chilly southern Norway. So glad your blood pressure is down. One less thing to worry about. Wonderful that you have a good doctor, it means the world when one is sick. Hope you feel much better very soon. I am going to try your juice combo. My illness is making life tough these days and l need to do something positive to mentally recharge. Your juice is just the thing to start with. Blessings, Pam xx

  9. Laura... finding the right doctor is the most important thing. My #2 faced a health crisis and we had the wrong doctor. He insisted it was depression and should be on antidepressants. It turns out she had 2 hiatal hernias and a weak LES. So happy I got rid of him and found a fabulous female doctor who actually LISTENED. Hope you are feeling better. Great news on your blood pressure!!
