pass the soup please and who has a piece of paper

Today's blog post is brought to you courtesy of a comment I left on Muddy Boot Dreams. Jen was talking about the soup she had cooling on her counter, and I of course asked her to pass me some. I already had my spoon and bowl ready. The fact that she is in British Columbia and I am in Kentucky doesn't seem like an excuse to not share. Her wonderful homemade soup sounded a lot more appealing than the brown rice I had for dinner. One serving of brown rice down, one hundred more to go. You can read more about that here.

Then I was following up on her idea about needing an app for blogging ideas. Personally, I just need a pen and a piece of paper. Neither of which I seem to have when I am out and about and come up with my most brilliant ideas. Of course after a period of five minutes those ideas have gone off into some unknown realm and I am left with the posts that you are forced to read in their place.

Take yesterday for example, I was sitting in the opthalmologist's office waiting for my eye to dilate (yes, I finally went to see about my eye problem) when I came up with an amazing idea for a post. Don't ask me what it was because it has been way over the five minute window of opportunity for writing it down. I was frantically pulling things out of my purse in search of even a scrap of paper and a writing implement when the lady across from me said, "don't you just hate how we never carry around pens and paper anymore".

As a matter of fact, I do hate it. What is my excuse? I am a blogger. I write on an almost daily basis. I know, I could have put it into my wonderful Iphone6, but someone forgot to charge it up the night before. Lesson learned. Smartphones are not much use when they are dead.

So, I am making a list. Buy a notepad tomorrow. Uh oh, no notepad to make the list. Do you think I will remember about buying the notepad when tomorrow rolls around? I know, I'll put a reminder in my Iphone. Now what did I do with that darn thing?

P.S. Today is my sweet Granddaughter Sid's ninth Birthday. I adore that girl and hope she has the best day ever. You can see her sweet face in my profile photo. Your gift should have arrived by now, Sid, all wrapped up with an old quilt top and some twine.

  1. Oh Laura. Your foliage shots are lovely. Happy Birthday to your granddaughter, too. I use just paper and pen for post ideas. Just made one out, as a matter of fact. Hope your Halloween is fun. Susan

  2. I know how you feel. I can think of something and it will vanish in a minute or less. By the time I dig the pen out of my purse it has left me. I am so distracted ( notice I said distracted because I can't be old enough to start losing my memory) that I will think of something I need to get at the store and by the time I walk to the kitchen to write it on the grocery list I have forgotten it. Maybe it is because we are so creative we can't contain all our thoughts in our brain. :) Well that is my story and I am sticking to it. LOL Debbie

    1. I blame mine on the gabapentin I take. I call it my gabby brain, because it is always gabbing and distracting me from the things I want to remember . I agree. It can't possibly be because we are getting older :)

  3. Oh Jen's soup was probably wonderful and now I want soup. I always have paper with me and so many pens my purse weighs my shoulder down. I do not have a fancy phone so I need paper. Like you us bloggers need to get it down or it spins and spins and gets bigger and bigger:). Happy Birthday to your Grandaughter love the old quilt and twine. Hug B

    1. Sid was excited to get the quilt top which was left over from an apron I made her. Now she can create something from it. I put three pens in my purse yesterday. We'll see how long it takes me to lose them :)

  4. I keep my charger near the outlet all the time. Anytime I'm in the kitchen, I just plug the phone in. It always seems to have a full charge that way. I use my Notes app all the time. And I pick up those tiny little notepads at the Dollar tree left and right...have those all over. I know, I'm fanatical about a lot of things, just thought I might help you a bit. Your version is much funnier!! :)

    Happy Birthday to Sid!

    1. Thank you, Jane. Believe me. I need all the help I can get. I need some smaller notepads. I'll have to get some next time I am at the Dollar Tree :)

  5. I actually carry a note pad and pen in my purse. I know how often I've needed it for lists etc. Funny, I'm old school and don't use my phone calendar etc. I still use pen and paper. Happy Birthday to your granddaughter! I love how you wrapped her gift.

  6. Laura, I just had a wonderful ah ha moment...and it had nothing to do with soup, paper or apps, ya hooo! First let me tell you how beautiful your fall foliage photos are...that just rolls off of the tongue doesn't it?

I can easily read blogs in my cell phone, [Jane had a great idea about leaving the charger in a place that you hang out all the time!!] and I just signed up for your follow by email button. That way I never miss a post...I wish more bloggers had those.

PS thank you for the mention, and yes, the soup was delish!

    1. I tried to say fall foliage photos three times. I didn't get past the first. I hang out in my blogging chair most of the time so I keep my charge there, Occasionally I forget to plug it in anyway. I like to follow by email, too. That way when I am out with my phone I get notifications that pop right up.

PS still wishing for some of that delish soup :)

  9. I understand you! I can't live without papers to write everything that comes to my mind. I do tend to forget where I put the papers, though ;)

    1. And there lies the problem. Even when we write it down we then have to find it :)
