SIMPLE SUMMER MEMORIES

Saturday, August 23, 2014

Summer seems to be quickly winding down. The light is softening and the leaves are changing. Where has it gone. It seems that we waited so long for it to appear and in the blink of an eye it is disappearing.

Taking with it the memories of fresh tomatoes.

of baskets overflowing with tree ripened sweet peaches,

of roadsides decorated with colorful wildflowers,

of children with bare feet and sunglasses,

of precious time with family,

and of lazy walks down country lanes.

They are after all only simple memories, but they are memories that can be pulled out and dusted off when the melancholy of fall sets in. To be relived in my imagination as I make new memories.

Enjoy your day.

  2. Good Afternoon Laura, I can feel Autumn in the air here in England. The nights are drawing-in and there is a certain chill to the mornings. I love sunshine, and I love the summer, but there is something wonderful about cosy nights, with candles lit and lamps switched on which I love. Admittedly, by the end of the winter I am ready for the lighter nights which the arrival of spring brings with it. We have only just started switching the lights on as we have had daylight until 10 o'clock at night.
    Enjoy your weekend.
    Best Wishes

    1. May years ago I made a visit to England. I remember it as being cool and rainy in June. I do like Autumn, but I am not a fan of winter and I know winter will be following on the heels of fall. I have to prepare myself for it :)

  4. I have just come in doors at just before 7pm because I am so cold outside, it definitely seems as though the seasons have decided to change earlier than we might expect! xx

  6. Going much too fast for me especially since I've seen the winter forecast for the Eastern part of the US. I've made my lists for getting the yard winter ready for catastrophe and I'm eating as many tomato sandwiches as I possibly can.

  9. It's a nice thought to be able to just pull memories from our past to give us comfort for today.

  10. Love those fresh fruit and veggie pictures. Many people think Florida doesn't have seasons but they are wrong. Well maybe South Florida but North Florida and Central Florida definitely have Fall. In fact Fall is my favorite season and I am longing for it to come. Yes it is a little late arriving here but it arrives. Maybe a little differently but it definitely arrives. I found your blog through Cozy Little Cottage. I love your photos and writing. Glad I found you.

    1. I lived in California for many years and I remember how sick I was of the extreme heat by the time September rolled around, and then it would just get hotter. Now I seem to love the heat. Thanks so much for stopping by. It is lovely to meet you.

  11. Simple pleasures making simple memories, but simple is the very best kind. I have a simple summer memory: of tomatoes picked in sunshine and their warm red skins pressed softly against childrens cheeks. I shall think of this every time l eat tomatoes from now on. Thank you for your beautiful pictures and warming thoughts. Blessings, Pam xx
