tire, battery, and snow oh my!!!

What a week. The weather has been and continues to be crazy. We've gone from warm to snow to ice all in a matter of days and apparently there is a lot more craziness to come.

I have a real problem during the winter. I suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder). I need the light and there has been very little of it lately. That is why when there is a sunny day I sit by my window soaking up the sun.

When the days are gray and gloomy I start to feel antsy and know I need to get out of the house. That's when I will usually hit the thrift stores and go to auctions. Last week was no exception and so on Thursday I went to one of my usual auctions. It's not only a chance to find things for my shop, but it is a chance for me to visit with all of my auction friends and the gossiping visiting takes my mind off of the gray and gloom outside.

The Thursday auction is one town over from where I live and I love driving through the countryside to get there and back. Last week when I got ready to leave the auction my car was a bit cranky when I started it, and since it had been awhile since I had replaced the battery I decided to come back through town instead of taking the country road. I really did not want to be sitting on the side of a country road waiting for AAA if the car died. They do always ask if you are in a safe place and I would probably be screaming "NO, I'M NOT. HELP!!"

Take my word for it. These boots were not made for walking.

So to make a long story short. (I'm not particularly a Chatty Cathy), on the "safe" way home I ran over something in the road and blew out my tire. My six week old new tire. It was flat as a fritter.Well, no problem, Laura, the place where you buy your tires knows that you always get road hazard insurance and so it will be covered.

WRONG!! WRONG!! WRONG!!

They forgot to ask me if I wanted the coverage, which of course they would never admit, and so I had to buy another new tire.

On top of that after waiting for AAA to arrive (yes I had to call them anyway) I found I out I did need a new battery, Mine was dead Fred.

SIGH!!!

This morning when I went out and started up my "everything is now perfect car" the check engine soon" light came on.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Message to universe. I think Laura needs a new car.

P.S. I did remember to say please didn't I?

  4. Oh what a drag! I'm so sorry. Several years ago, I went through a period where I blew two tires. I ran over something both times. So frustrating. And I've been there on the battery too. You do need a new car!

  6. Aw Laura, that is a rotten string of bad luck with your car! It seems that when it rains (snow) it pours! I hope you can make do with the new parts on your car or find a good replacement one. Hugs. Pam

  7. Oh I hate days like this! Hope things get better soon. My oldest daughter has SAD and uses a special light to help her, she says it does help a lot.

  8. We had to buy 4 new tires on Monday so I feel your pain. I remember when we were living in KY there was a huge snowstorm and I had a flat tire on the way home from work. Mark was out of town and when I called him crying he asked if I had called AAA yet. Of course, I replied "No but if you were here to help me with things, yada, yada, yada" and all he said "Was even if I was there, you'd need to call AAA because I wouldn't change a flat tire in that weather" So much for my knight in shining armor.

  10. It seems like at times, it's just one thing after another! I'm glad you got the tire and battery replaced safely and hope that the check engine light was no big deal. Those seem to like to go on at whim! Hugs, Leena

  11. Oh, Laura, I hope for better days ahead for you. I hope the check engine light is nothing major and a new or newer car will be in the cards for you soon.

  12. Oh dear .. Well, we all have these moments. It seems like things happen when we least expect and one needs to be prepared and check to make sure we have emergency supplies JUST in case we get stranded. The weather you've been having would push me over the edge.. enough of that white stuff and chilling temperatures. If I were you, I'd be getting a little sassy;) Anyway, it's 19 degrees here in WA state with snow coming for the weekend. It will be just a little and I'm thankful for that. We do have lots of darkness here and so I bought a Philips Blue Light. I turn it on in the morning when I'm having my coffee and reading emails. It seems to help:) xxL

  13. Oh no! This crazy universe has doubled up on us, Laura. Although I was on a lonely country road auto club quickly found me . . . luckily after I had prevailed of the woods, um facilities last week. Dare I say happy motoring?

  14. I believe you need a new car, Laura. It’s highly recommended to buy a new car if you think it’s not wise to proceed with repairs only. Well, I hope you’ll be able to get your new car soon. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your new car in your future posts. :)
