Taking a Break

I am going to be taking a much needed blogging break this week. Lots of last minute packing, then moving Mom on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then there will be unpacking for a couple of days.

I should be back at the end of the week, and then I will be heading down to Georgia and North Carolina at the end of next week. I will be having my day in court on the 13th. I can't wait to get it over with no matter what the outcome is. Hopefully I will get back some of my property, but either way, I am ready to move on.

I will leave you with this photo of my sweet grandbaby.

It begs the question. Which came first the baby or the chicken? From the look on the chicken's face I would say she believes it was her yard first.

vintage ladder decor

I am having a romance with vintage ladders. I love their rustic appeal and versatility.

They make sweet little side tables.

a place to hang your laundry

or your kitchen wares

for wall display

or a unique garden display

Busy Bee and a sale

As I sit here this morning listening to the rain and thunder and watching the lightning, I begin to think about.......uh oh am I going to get zapped through my laptop.

Maybe I did , because I have decided to have a week long sale in my shop.

Now through April 30th, everything in ImSoVintage the SHOP is 20% off the listed price.

The coupon code to use at checkout is SPRINGFLING20

Mom has decided to move into a senior apartment and just like me, when she makes up her mind to do something, she wants it done right away. So she is moving next week and we are busy packing up the things she wants to take with her. We will then have until August to sort through and get rid of the rest of her things. I in the meantime must find a job in Atlanta during this time. So that is one of the reasons for the sale. I need to move things out of the shop so that I don't have to move it all. Definitely a busy time.

how does your garden grow

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How does your garden grow
With silver bells and cockle shells
And pretty maids all in a row

I loved that nursery rhyme when I was a child. It seemed pretty nonsensical to me, which is probably what appealed to me.

Spring always seems to bring a sense of longing to walk through beautiful gardens on a warm day.

Gardens that beckon from the first glimpse.

Add caption

that cool you with a splash of water

that offer a place to rest in the midst of your walk

that share a bit of whimsy

Add caption

and invite you to collect sweet bouquets.

How does your garden grow?

have you forgotten to love the "me"

Have you forgotten to love the "me" in your life?

Are you remembering to really love you?

As an older woman, I have found this one of the most difficult things to do. I was raised in an atmosphere of "woman as caretaker".

But I seem to have not gotten the message that I also need to "caretake" myself. I don't think that is an actual word, but I like it, and I think I will use it whenever I am forgetting the "me".

I was recently gobsmacked by someone that I have been trying to help. When I said that I needed to focus time on my needs, I was told that I was just being selfish and not thinking about anyone else but myself. I took a step back as if I had been physically slapped. How dare this person say this to me. I felt devastated and somehow "guilty", but then after I thought about it, I realized that this person is only "thinking" of their "me", they are not "loving" their "me". By not loving their "me" they are not able to connect with the rest of the world and without that connection there can only be a sense of being alone.

I also believe by focusing on trying to make others happy while not "caretaking" myself, that there was a disconnect. They never realized that I was focused on their happiness. Instead I seemed to produce the opposite of what I was trying to accomplish.

So I am learning to "love" the "me" and through that love I feel that I am able to feel the inter-connecting more.

How do you "caretake" yourself? Are you loving your "me"? Do you feel the inter-connection with the rest of the world?

it's my favorite

Today's post is short, but definitely sweet. This photo popped up on my facebook page this week. It is my little lovey being swung by her mom.

I love the look of pure joy and love she has for her mama. I plan to spend the day feeling that joy.

With all of the stress I am currently under, I knew I needed to find some relief. As a former counselor, I know that stress can take a terrible toll not only on your mental well being, but on your physical well being also.

I have been wanting to start meditation, but wasn't quite sure how to go about it. What I need I thought jokingly is Meditation for Dummies.

Ha, I didn't know there really was one.

Okay, I am too embarrassed to actually go into the bookstore and buy this so I found this wonderful stress less guided meditation online.

It really does work amazingly well, and I have pinned it to one of my boards so that I can find it easily. If you want to repin it you can find it here.

I am doing it first thing in the morning and last thing at night and if I need to I also do it during the day. (Believe me, I need to)

Ahhhhh!!! Relaxation is wonderful.

Oh, and if this doesn't work, do what I did yesterday after listening to another two hour meltdown. Roll down your windows and sing "Love Shack" along with the radio at the top of your lungs. It will give you a good giggle just looking at the other drivers faces.

have you?

Have you suffered a loss?

a job?

a relationship?

a death?

your youth?

We all suffer losses in our lives, and we grieve, but we never know what is around the next bend. Beauty can grow anywhere.

So, don't ever give up on finding happiness, because you are special and you deserve it.

I wanted to let you know that on Tuesday I sent the paperwork off to North Carolina to file a civil suit to try and find out what happened to my property. You can read more about that here. I don't know if I will ever see any of it again, but I am hoping that it will give me closure.

I am also dealing with some serious issues with some family members (I seem to be the go to person to try and solve them) while trying to find a job in Atlanta and figure out how to get moved in the next couple of months. I am going one step at a time, knowing there is beauty that will grow within me.

do cherries really weep

It's my favorite spring outing. Visiting the historical Lexington Cemetery in the spring when the weeping cherries are in bloom.

Who are they weeping for?

Is it the forgotten souls who left this earth so long ago?

Are they meant to provide us with a canopy of peace as we, the living, meander through the grave sites?

I wonder who planted these beautiful old trees so long ago.

Did they know that when we were unable to be there to weep, that these beautiful trees would weep for us.

Let It Be

I am feeling a heaviness in my heart today. Once again we have been struck with a terrible tragedy in our country. Innocent lives have been lost and people's lives have been changed forever.

I am grieving for those lives and praying for the survivors and their families while knowing that I can't personally do much more than that. I can't find and get the perpetrator(s) off the streets so that they can't do this again. I can pray for those whose task this is. I can't heal the injured. I can't counsel the grieving, but I am thankful for those who can.

So I choose to let it be. I choose to trust that all will be taken care of and there will be answers.

you inspire me Monday - Cabin & Cottage

I can't believe it is Monday again already. This past week has flown by for me and a lot of changes are getting ready to take place. I will share that later, but today is "You Inspire Me Monday", and I am very excited about this weeks featured blogger.

Have you met Jacqueline from Cabin & Cottage

Her blog is a feast for the eyes,

and it reaches into your inner longings and makes you want more.

Each time I visit, I want to just move into her house and take up residence.

Lunch on the patio? Yes please.

It's definitely a place to stop and smell the flowers so give yourself lots of time.

All photos are from Cabin & Cottage so if pinning, please go to the original page.

tabletop vignette

My favorite thing this week is this tabletop vignette I quickly put together.

I really like the white with the pops of red, and of course I love the vintage components.

loving ourselves in the now

Do you sometimes look back at your past self with longing.

I remember how I looked as a young mother. My body was thin and full of energy.

I remember times when I could jump and run with ease. Times when I could chase down running toddlers.

I remember when I could always find my car keys, where I parked my car in the grocery store lot, what I ate for lunch yesterday.

Today I am making peace with the past and loving the person I am now. I am embracing the parts that look back at me in the mirror. The parts that sag, the hair that is always curly, the scars on my knees, the wrinkles where there used to be smooth skin.  Today I am acknowledging that I am wonderful just as I am.

I am realizing that I don't have to wait for validation from others. I don't have to wait to lose unwanted pounds to love myself. I can love myself in this very moment and that is what I choose to do.

I hope you are choosing to love yourself in this moment, too.

farmhouse wall

As an antiques and vintage dealer, I am constantly moving things in and out of my house and while things are here, I have to find a place for them.

In my current small space, it means finding a shelf here or a wall there and creating a vignette.

This wall in my bathroom is perfect for display. It held pretty floral prints in the past, but those sold and so now I have displayed some of my newest farmhouse finds.

An old enamel baby bathtub.

a wonderful vintage wooden step ladder.

an oxen yoke. I was thinking this might be converted into a pot hanger.

and this wonderful wall pocket my daughter made for me.

I will be adding the first three items to the shop. The wall pocket will of course be staying with me.
