promise in the air

There's promise in the air. It's whispering to me. Teasing me as I peer through the window.

It's shooting out tendrils of new hope and calling my name.

The stark brown landscape is finding relief and sighs with impatience for more of the same.

Green leaves are shyly peaking out.

A pot shows off the brave chives it has sheltered from the winter cold.

Yes, the air is chilly, but the sun has boldly come out and the warm air can't be far behind.

Welcome back spring.

mama told me not to lie

I don't know about you, but the worst thing I could do as a child was lie.

Well, apparently someone didn't get that message, and now he is facing his day of reckoning.

Yes, my friends, it is Punxsutawney Phil, and I say it is not a moment too soon.

An Ohio attorney is "lightheartedly" suing him for being a no good lying varmint for predicting there would not be six more weeks of winter weather.

It seems Phil is already working up his defense.

I'm not buying that nonsense and I'm ready to offer myself up as a witness.

Wait, I'm not allowed to travel until mid April and by then all of this will be forgotten and I will be digging in the garden.

SIGH!!!

I was so looking forward to my moment of glory.

could it be?

Daffodils
by
William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

source

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

source

The waves beside them danced; but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
  In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

source

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
  Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Yes, the daffodils are up and blooming. A sure sign of spring.

It's the little things

Last night as I sat in my grumbly mood from the cold seeping into my bones, my phone made that wonderful bing sound that indicates I am getting a text message.

What appeared made me realize that it's the little things in life that make everything worthwhile.

Yesterday was Little Bit's 8 month birthday. She is ready to take off and conquer the world, and she plans on doing it with a big smile on her face.

I think she just taught her Nana an important lesson.

Today I am heading out to an auction. The first one I have been able to attend in eight weeks. It feels good to be getting back to working. I still have more physical therapy, but there is definitely an end in sight. Life is really pretty good.

wishing and hoping

Each morning, my first task of the day is to set the sold shop packages on the front porch for the mail person to pick up. This morning I had to place them in plastic bags, as the porch was covered with snow, and as I stood in the cold my thoughts were that I hope this is winter's last hurrah.

I can remember the love I had for winter as a child, but as I have grown older, that love has waned. Gone are the days of sliding on the ice on the way to school, of tobogganing down the hills, and of creating snowmen. Now, the cold wind seems to seep into my bones and the gray of the skies affects my moods.

So as I stood on that cold snowy porch I began to dream of porches that reflect warm welcomes.

Porches filled with flowers

with whimsy

with colorful nooks

with places to dream

and places to share a meal

and I felt my mood lift as I closed the door against the cold, because I know that those days are not far off.

look out world.......

here I come.......

Yes, I am able to drive again. After over six weeks of having to be ferried around, I am able to get behind the wheel and take myself to all the places I have been missing.

I feel like a sixteen year old who has just gotten her license for the first time.

I'm sure you remember that feeling.

The first thing my friends and I did was cruise around the town in my mom's car looking for boys. The windows were down (no a/c) and we thought we were pretty cool in that big old Chrysler.

Okay, I'm not looking for boys, but I am visiting some favorite places.

Yes, my priorities have changed, but that wonderful sense of freedom is still there.

really? now?

Oh boy, it's March. Time for daffodils to be poking out from the new warm soil. Time for kids to be flying kites. Time for...........

WHAT??????

This can't be right. I looked left, I looked right.

I must be having a nightmare.

I'll check out the back........

SIGH!!!!!

Well, next Sunday is forecast to be in the sixties. I'll just close my curtains and pretend it's next Sunday.
