shopping on a Monday

Well, it's Monday again. How does it roll around so quickly. I hate to even tell you, but I spent half the day in the ER again. I'm beginning to not like Sundays. I apparently have hemorraghic cystitis which is both painful and scary. I'm thinking my body is turning on me. They gave me IV antibiotics and sent me home with antibiotics and pain killers. I am not used to all these meds. I think they are making me feel worse than what they are treating :(

I can't think of a better cure for the blahs than a Monday excursion on Etsy. Please click on the description  below each image to view the item on Etsy.

me me me me.....

How many of you put everyone else in your life first? There are the children, the grandchildren, the husbands, the partners, the parents, the boss............. You may raise your hands now. Don't be embarrassed.......

source

Oh my, there are quite a few of you.  Hmmmmm!!!

You would think that as a trained counselor, I would know better than to not take care of myself first. I mean, I spent a lot of time giving other people

source

but, I am also a woman, and I know that we have all been socialized to take care of everyone else first. And yes, I know that we are responsible, to a certain extent, for taking care of others.

source

I also know that we have to learn to put our own well being first.  (We may not want to go this far, although we all may have thought about it at some point)

source

No, we are not being selfish. By taking care of ourselves we are able to be healthier both mentally and physically to give to our loved ones. We need time to dream.

source

We need time to...

source

We need o laugh and play with the abandon of children

and we need the support and connection with like minded women. That is one of the wonderful things about blogging. It connects us with a network of wonderful women friends.

What are you doing to take care of yourself today? I am going out to lunch with my mom and doing some all around general relaxing.

have you met?

I bet you thought I forgot about my Pay it Forward series, where I introduce you to some special blogging friends. I know many of you know her already, but for those of you who don't, I want to introduce you to Ricki Jill who writes the blog Art@Home. I think you will have to agree with me that Ricki Jill is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She exemplifies southern hospitality.

She shares real photos of her home.

Ricki Jill is an avid reader and shares her reviews of the books she reads.

Ricki Jill writes her happy list every week and I loved it when she brought back wonderful memories for me this week by sharing this. I've been singing it for two days. You know how much I love cheery songs.

She shares her cooking attempts with us, good and bad ( although I personally can't imagine Ricki Jill ever cooking up anything that wasn't delicious)

and then there are her always sweet table settings.

Well, I'm sure you get the idea. Ricki Jill is just wonderful, and I am so happy she has become a blogging friend. So if you don't already follow her, make sure you hop right on over to Art@Home

hi ho hi ho....

it's off........no, wait I am not heading off to a new job. I just have to get back to working today. I have a confession to make. I have been suffering from severe neuropathy pain. I had mentioned here that I have been having peripheral neuropathy, but I've kind of glossed over the pain. The doctors don't know what is causing it, but they started me on Neurontin last night. (I am really loopy). Hopefully it will work and the loopiness will wear off. As we all know, I am loopy enough without medication :)

As the old saying goes, I am pulling myself up by my bootstraps and getting back to working on my shop. With that in mind, I thought I would do some self promotion today and share some of my shop goodies. (There is also the fact that my poor brain is too fuzzy for meaningful chit chat)

There are things for your garden. Like this primitive old metal bucket.

$21

wonderful old pottery

$44

a collection of baskets

$20

old primitive enamelware

$24

antique maps, to frame, are being added daily.

$16

Things for your kitchen decor.

fabulous antique photos

$62

upcycled American Ruralist collection

$9.50

There's lots more, but you get the idea. For those of you who asked, my first knee replacement surgery is scheduled for May 27th. Oh boy!! Are we having fun yet?

I am now going to make up my bed, pull up those boot straps, and get busy sewing.

shopping on a Monday

I'm a bit late with the shopping today. I had to go for my pre-op appointment this morning, so I am a bit behind on everything. But, it is never too late in the day to shop, and today I am honoring Earth Day which was yesterday, by featuring some gardening items I found.

Please click on the description under the photo to view the item on Etsy.

thumbs up

I'm feeling in a thumbs up kind of mood this morning, so I am going to list a few things I am giving a thumbs up to.

First, I am giving a thumbs up to my blood tests. I finally called this morning and everything was in the normal range except I am a little low in vitamin D. I was a bit surprised by that since I only drink water and

I drink a lot of organic milk, but apparently the deficiency is brought about by not enough exposure to

because we use so much sunscreen to protect our skin. So, I had already started taking a vitamin D-3 supplement after my visit to the doctor so that should take care of that little problem. Still don't know what is causing the peripheral neuropathy, but a lovely reader suggested I try magnesium.

So another thumbs up goes to all my lovely blog readers.

Another thumbs up goes to this great red stool.

My 87 year old mother still loves to cook, but she has osteoporosis really bad, so standing hurts her back. I found this great vintage stool at an auction, so now she can continue to cook, and I get to reap the rewards. I would have to say that is a pretty big thumbs up for me.

I'm giving a thumbs up to my peonies. They are just about ready to pop open.

and nothing says spring in the south to me than the sweet smell of honeysuckle blooms

the bushes behind my house are loaded with them, and even though my allergies aren't crazy about it, I have to give it a thumbs up for the nostalgia it evokes.

a thumbs up to a good sales day on Etsy yesterday.

one box is packed and sitting on the porch ready for shipment and the rest will be done today.

and finally a thumbs up to wonderful silly photos of my grandchildren.

It's been awhile since I've seen them, but seeing photos and talking to them on the phone makes life wonderful.

Have you ever noticed that it is the simple everyday things in life that give us the most pleasure.

to paint or not to paint

Good morning everyone. As you may have noticed, I took the day off yesterday. I have been feeling a bit stressed out and decided I need to cut myself some slack. For those of you who have asked, I have not heard from the doctor. I am hoping that is good news on the diabetes question as she said she would call if something serious showed up. She also said if everything is okay, I will get a card in the mail. That hasn't shown up yet either. hmmmmm. Hopefully I will get one of those today. I do still have the burning red neuropathy in my feet, so that will have to be addressed with some type of medication I guess.

I really appreciate your concerns and I will let you know if I hear something else.

Now, on to the fun stuff. I read a lot about the issue of painting furniture. Should a piece be painted or not. I have mixed feelings on it. I certainly have some antiques (currently in storage or I would show you photos) that are definitely not candidates for painting. On the other hand, I think it is wonderful when old beat up or otherwise unusable pieces are rehabbed into new and exciting looks with paint. I know ASCP is very popular, although I haven't tried it myself.

So, today I thought I would share some great pieces I have found online and am happy to see have been given a new life. I love that paint can give everything from a very rustic to a more modern feel to furniture.

What is your favorite look, and how do you feel about the painting craze? I love all of these, but I think the last photo is my favorite.
