Go Ahead and Blossom

Sort of a continuation of yesterday's post.

Isn't it wonderful that we are capable of blossoming at any age. So go ahead and strut your stuff.

I have decided to head on down to Atlanta this weekend to meet my new granddaughter and spend lots of hugging time with all three of my grandchildren.

I have lots to do to get ready to travel today and tomorrow. It has been nine months since I have taken a road trip by myself and I am looking forward to it. I have to make stops to exercise my knee, so I  will be taking it a bit slower than I usually do. Time to stop and smell the roses and lots of time to reflect on my own blossoming.

I promise to share pictures over the next week.

Only You are You

I found this on my facebook page today and really liked it, so thought I would share.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about going out on a limb. Should I do this or should I do that? You know how those self-conversations go. How often in your life have you done what everyone else thought you should do instead of what you wanted to do, even if their options made you feel like your soul was being sucked out of your body. I'm sure they mean well, but they are projecting their own experience onto you, and it may not be the right thing for YOU!!!

After all, only you are you.

On a side note, I had my two month after surgery appointment today. My surgeon was amazed at how far my leg could bend and everything looks great. He said the pain I am continuing to feel will gradually get better. So with this good news, I am going to stand tall and proud, go out on a limb, and follow my muse.

a little day trip

I just knew on Saturday that I needed to get out of the house for the day, so my mom and I packed up the car for an impromptu day trip and headed out.

We had heard that there was a new Amish market and bakery that had opened near Perryville, Kentucky, which is a little over an hour down the road from us, so we decided to check it out. I have been reading a lot of Amish fiction and mystery books over the last few months, and their baked goods sounded really good to me.

The day started off sunny and hot, but just as we pulled into the market, a rain storm came up. It was raining so hard, that I didn't get any photos of the market, and I know enough about the Amish to not take any photographs of the people.

I did take a picture of some of our purchases.

We brought home a nice selection of homemade jams, two types of fresh bread, pickled beets (for my mom, I hate them), homemade canned soup, cookies, and fresh fudge. Hey, where's the fudge?

By the time we left, we were starving and needed to find a place for lunch.

I loved this barbecue place on the side of the road.

Grizzly's was cooking up some amazing smelling barbecue, and even though the rain had stopped, the dining facilities were somewhat lacking, so we continued on down the road.

Ahhhhh, there is always the Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg.

A bad meal has never been served at the Beaumont Inn, and even though they have stopped serving lunch on Saturdays in the main dining room, we found the same menu in their charming new Old Owl Tavern.

Yellow leg fried chicken, fresh green beans homemade rolls and cornbread, and tossed salad with the best ever thousand island dressing was enough food to last for quite awhile. Seriously, when you leave there you feel like you need to walk the 30 miles home.

The perfect ending to the day was a nice siesta while it rained outside.

go ahead

Do you ever have a period of time where you feel like you have this sign taped to your back. This is how I have been feeling all this week......verrrrry grumpy.

I have reached the point of wondering why I had knee replacement surgery. My knee hurt when I walked before the surgery and eight weeks after the surgery my knee hurts when I walk. Ummm, I do have a really lovely scar to show for it, but I am definitely a bit disgruntled.

And then there is my computer.......I showed you my computer in a previous post

Well, I picked it up for the second time yesterday and guess what....... Oh my, you are ever so smart.....yes, it still isn't fixed. He was going to try and charge me more to fix it again.......Don't mess with me, because I am in no mood........

I am woman hear me roar!!!! or watch me take out my handy dandy phone and call the Better Business Bureau number that you have posted on your front door.....

So that is a small portion of my week. I won't bore you with the rest.

On a bright note, it is raining, a very wonderful soaking rainfall. I think the flowers, grass, and trees are all smiling.

random spaces

I spent the first part of my day taking my mom to the dermatologist and then out to lunch. By the time I got home, I was feeling a bit frazzled that I was so far behind in my day. However, when I opened up my computer the first thing I saw was this sweet photo of my two granddaughters sharing some quiet time at home for the first time.

I felt an immediate calmness come over me. After all, what could be more important than this?

So I thought instead of my usual Monday post, I would share some random photos of spaces I like.

and now there are three

I know two sweet children who were very happy to meet their new little sister. The two of them are the very best of friends, and now they have this precious new addition to help watch over.

I think there will be a lot of fun times ahead in that household, and I can't wait to join the party in a couple of weeks.

welcome to the world

Last night at 11:22 my new grandchild was born.

She weighed in at a whopping 5 lbs 7 oz and is 17 1/2 " long. She is definitely a little peanut. She joins her brother who is 9 and her sister who is 6.

I am not allowed to travel down there for at least another week, but can't wait to get there. My mom and I will be so excited to get there and give her lots of snuggles.

So welcome to the world Tessa Kathleen. We are so happy that you are here.

the good, the bad, and.....

the ugly.

It's a normal day today, filled with the good, the bad, and the ugly. I think I will take them in reverse order, so I can end on an up note.

First, is the ugly. We are in a major heat driven drought. Days in the 100s with no rain, have left, what a few short weeks ago was a lush landscape, an ugly brown mess.

Ugh, it's like walking on straw.

We water in the morning, and three hours later the flowers look like this.

They completely wilt. You can see how dry the earth is and all the leaves that are turning prematurely brown and falling off the trees.

Okay, now on to the bad. Monday, I picked up my laptop, which had been "in jail" for over a week awaiting a new screen. I was so happy to get it back, even though it set me back $190. Wednesday afternoon, it went out again.

It looked like this.

Um hello..... isn't this what I paid to fix? So first thing to day, I drug it back to the repair shop.

This was my face

Of course, my mama taught me you catch more flies with honey, so I restrained myself and didn't throw the computer at the repair guy.

Now on to the good and it's a big one. It looks like this.

Yes, yes, yes..... Our Trader Joe's has opened and it is less than 10 minutes from me. I am so excited. I am going today and I can't wait. So, I happen to think the good may just outweigh the bad and the ugly. Should I wear my Hawaiian shirt to get in the spirit?

my inner summer child

Do you have an inner summer child? I do!

When I woke up this morning...after I used my Flonase for allergies and Prilosec for heartburn....I thought about what it was like on a summer morning when I was a child.

It was so exciting to get the day started.I would jump out of bed and pull on a pair of shorts or my favorite skort. You do remember skorts don't you? Those cute litttle short and skirt combinations. I loved them.

pattern found at  HoneymoonBus

I don't wear skorts anymore, but I did put on some shorts (proudly showing off my wonderful new scar on my knee)

I would then pull on my summer Keds. My dad always took us down to the local shoe store to get us a new pair of Keds at the start of the summer. I always chose red.

Well, guess what I still wear Keds. This year I have a great pair of patch madras Keds. You do remember patch madras don't you?

How cool are these? I can definitely feel my summer kid coming out.

It was then time to head downstairs for breakfast. I loved getting to choose which cereal I wanted. Lots of choices full of sugary goodness. Rice Krispies were my favorite. Loved the snap, crackle, and pop.

Guess what I loved a fresh peach cut up on my cereal and I still do. Today I had Kashi Heart to Heart, but still brought out my summer child.

After breakfast we were allowed to watch Captain Kangaroo on some days.

I loved Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans. I don't watch much TV anymore, but I worked the crossword. A fun way to start the day.

Then it was time to hit the great outdoors. I didn't get to play today, but it was still cool enough this morning that I rolled down my car windows and let the wind blow my hair while I ran some errands. Brought back lots of memories of car rides before we had air conditioning. You remember those days don't you? My brother, sister and I would be crammed into the backseat sweating and fighting. It was great!!

So, I don't know about you, But I am enjoying my summer inner child. Before you know it, I will be at the local Woolworths eating Tootsie Rolls and drinking cherry Coke.
