sneaking away

I had told myself that I was going to spend yesterday afternoon doing some catching up, but I was feeling BLAH in the morning and just wanted to get away. So I looked at my mom and decided we needed to just sneak away for the afternoon. We hadn't been to Natural Bridge State Park since last fall and as it is only a little over an hour from Lexington, not too far to take my post surgery knee on a trip.

On Sundays they have a big buffet. You know the kind I'm talking about....good old southern fried chicken and catfish, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh green beans, banana pudding.....lots of good heart attack provoking foods that I wouldn't eat on a normal basis (well except for the green beans) but just the kind of food you want to eat while sneaking away. The kind of food you want to eat while

looking at spectacular views.

The kind of food you just look for any kind of excuse to eat.

Normally after a huge meal like that, I would want to walk it off, but as I can't do a lot of walking and it was 92 degrees, even in the mountains, we decided to take a leisurely drive back on a winding mountain road.

Such an amazingly beautiful area.

Every winding turn brought a new view.

We had to stop after an hour so I could stretch my legs so we pulled up in front of an old church.
Love the sign.

Don't you love the name? I kept looking for a creek nearby filled with wandering cows, but never could find it. Besides, that picture looks more like a buffalo to me.

I love this old iron bridge. They are doing away with them, so I love finding one that is still in use.

In order to save them, they try to get people to buy them and move them to their property. I'm thinking that maybe I might not have room outside the townhouse for one of these. Although, I have to admit, it would definitely be a conversation starter.

It was definitely one of those perfect kind of days and one that I will treasure, because I am still so lucky to have my mom with me to spend a day alone with.

  14. Laura - great stuff here. Your menu selection is making me need lunch (it's time here). Thanks for your vote (of turquoise) and your admitting that the hand slapping was funny. Did you see if your selection was right? (oh, & come see my new design on my blog) (hug)
Your photos were magnificent and that is a buffalo not a cow. They probably built the church on top of the old farm? hahaha.

  19. Don't think of it as a "bridge." Try "garden trellis" and see if that works better. : )
